Update!
Hello
I just want to start with saying thanks for everyone who reads this its nice to know that people are interested in what I have got to say!
I have recently had quite alot of time off, we finished the first 6 weeks of our 1st placement then had a coursework week (nearly full week off), an assessment week (nearly another week off), had last week off as annual leave and this week is my last annual leave week but I am doing my HCA Training which is really what I wanted to talk about as I'm so excited about it!
After talking about wanting to become a HCA on the bank, I am finally getting somewhere! I have had my first day doing the Trust Induction. We started the day off just introducing ourselves to each other, filled in some forms, had a bit of a question and answer period and went through all the other forms and packs (such as communication and legislations). After break we went into a little side room to learn how to change the sheets whilst a patient is in bed. Now this, I found myself volunteering to be the "experienced" HCA and ended up teaching the rest of the group how to do this. Really quite strange that I ended up teaching something to people who didnt know how to do it, when I am just a newbie to it all myself. I suprised myself with what I actually know, I could state all the rationale for what I was doing, that I didnt know I knew until that moment. Haha.
Anyway, we finished at 11.30 and were told to go over to the hospital and collect our uniforms and go to see the Flexible Staffing Office to get supernumerary shifts sorted out and other paperwork to do with our pay.
Turns out we are not allowed to collect our uniform until tomorrow - fair do's.
FSS turn out to be a lovely group of 3 ladies (I dont know why i expected them to be horrible lol!). They told me all the bits I need to know. I have to complete 10 supernumerary 6 hour shifts and then I can go off onto other wards as I please. I have been allocated to a Medical Ward. Scary scary!! I was kinda hoping for a Care of the Elderly ward as thats what I am doing on my Student Nurse Placement atm and kinda know what to do! Lol. Oh well, atleast we have to stay on one wad till we learn the ropes.
Ooh whilst on the subject of placements, I have found out that I have a 2 week "insight placement" starting 10th August (with a coursework week inbetween). Its at a court of houses that home a few people with learning disabilities. It sounds as though I shall be helping them with daily things such as washing themselves, taking them to the shops/day trips, general company etc. Sounds good to me!
So apart from that all is good. Im very very skint, infact im £300 overdrawn.. monthly at the moment and only have a £300 overdraft.. Ha. But I'll get my first pay packet for bank work next month on the 26th so I shall be very happy!
Oooh, found out today that a student at my campus has Swine flu, as do 3 lecturers at the other campus's. I didnt realise that it would get so close to me. I guess thats a wake up call for me. I shall be in contact with alot worse than Swine Flu I am sure!
Anyway enough of my randomness, Im off.
Will probably update in a few weeks. X
