Placements/End of Module 1/Insight...
Hey
So thats it! We have now completed our first Module and have 11 more to go. We did the "What is Mental Health" 3000 word essay, the pass mark was 40% and I got 51%. Not very good, but it was a C so I am happy. Around 40% of the group failed it though, so spirits arent very high at Uni this week...
We are due to go back on placement next week after having 4 weeks off and 2 weeks theory. Im not actually looking forward to it as I am going back to the nursing home. I ahve been doing my bank work on a surgical ward and absolutly love it!! Going back to the nursing placement, I feel that it is very much the same most days, same patients, same routines, not alot of change... I feel like I know the role of the nurse in the nursing home now, but I only have 2 weeks there, 2 weeks on my insight placement (learning disabilities in a community setting) and 2 weeks back at the home then I go back to uni again.
I have found out that my 2nd major placement (starting in October) is on a Surgical ward. Woohoo! Not the same ward as I work on, its at a different hospital. This one is a day surgery with 4 overnight beds. Everyone Ive spoken to about it says that the team there are really nice and I shall have a good time. To top it off I am with one of my friends there (one of the really enthusiastic ones too), I think it'll turn out to be a good one! - I believe it is a community placement for 3rd, just dont know where yet.
Bank work is going brilliant, the only one complaint is that I am not allowed to do obs yet, I have to get my competencies signed off before I am allowed to do anything, which is a little frustrating when your a student nurse aswel. I must remember though which uniform I am in to what I am allowed to do. A senior nurse said that she will sign me off when I next go in so that'll be good.
Module 2 is all about Nutrition, we have done alot on BMI, Waterlow and MUST Tools so far, this module is also focused on Children, so we have been getting alot of lectures about them and our assignment is to do a 15min presentation about a strand we are interested in. I chose Child Abuse.. turns out there is SO much info for it, hopefully I wont have a nervous breakdown doing the presentation though!!
