Re: New job...new career

well I have now been on the ward for 2 months now and things are getting better. I have been allocated my own patient but he hasnt actually been admitted yet, I am still apprehansive about what i should be doing in 1-1 sessions but I am hoping that once the time comes then I will be shown what to do etc. Most of the staff are nice but there are some staff who think that they are better than me but i suppose that you get that everywhere.
I have joined the nurse bank but I cant start doing shifts till i have done my moving and handling, I have just organised it through the bank as i dunno when the ward will send me so its all good so far lol

Re: New job...new career

Thought it was about time for another update.

Things are going really well. Im settled in and getting on brilliant with staff and patients.

Ive been working with my own patient, Im working on educating him about bowel habits and how hos body works etc. Ive made up my own wee storybook which is cool.
The scary thing is that his key worker is about to go off on annual leave and get married which leaves me the horrible task of preparing his case conference report and maybe having to read it out and the case conference and Ive never been to one in my puff! emoticon

Re: New job...new career

Wow I cant belivev I havent wrote in this for soooo long!

I have now been working there for 16mths and so much has happened!

I went for an E grade post there but didnt get it, apparently I wasnt qualified enough but at the same time they arent providing me with alot of chances to get the experience lol.

I have just completed a module in child and adolescent mental health and received 66% in my essay which I am mega chuffed with! emoticon

I am now much more confident in dealing with the children and their conditions and feeling more comfortable and part of the team! I am building up my confidence in co-ordinating the ward and being in charge doesnt seem as scary as what it was before!

I have no inclinition to go back to paediatrics at the moment but I am on the bank so if the chance comes to do a few shifts then I will!

I promise to keep you more updated!
