SCBU

started my placement on special care baby unit today.

it was actually quite good and babies in with lots of different things. Had to go down to labour ward to get a prem baby at 34 weeks but hes fantastic and doing great... also had to go to pick up another baby from labour ward with no fetal heart sounds but it had died they think it was a still birth emoticon

makes you apprieciate that the poor wee sickly babies in scbu are so lucky and so are their parents compared to some emoticon

Re: SCBU

I love scbu saw babies whose mums had taken drugs going through withdrawal, down's babies being put up for adoption etc.

Also the teams of nurses really work well together and I have found them to be really friendly...so enjoy! emoticon

Re: SCBU

The work that scbu nurses is amazing having had a prem baby at 34 weeks it makes you appreciate what they do.
My little boy was fine at birth scoring 9 then he went down hill having probs breathing. They put him in a air box but by morning he was on a venterlator with a colapsed lung. He was on scbu for 16 days but it seemed like a year.
i can not thank the staff enough on scbu not only for what they did for my son who is a healthy 7 year old but for the support they gave me and my hubby. The reason i had him early was because i had a brain anurisum (spelling s***) so i was blamming myself for it all. They diserve a lot more then what they get. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Re: SCBU

How long are you on scbu for lulu? Hope your still enjoying it. I really liked it but couldnt work there full time.

I learned so much but the hardest thing I found was trying to comfort parents, as I didnt know what to say to them...very hard.

Re: SCBU

well finished on SCBU today and start labour ward tomorrow.

SCBU turned out to be excellent emoticon after a bit of a crappy start. one of the staff nurses seemed to have a bit of an attitude... although she did say that to ignore her cos she could be a sarcastic ***** i think it would have been easier for her just not to have been a sarcastic ***** in the first place emoticon.

apparently there have been a lot of complaints from other staff and students about this particular nurse... theres gonna be another one emoticon

she was really unwilling to answer any questions or give feedback and liked to slag you off in front of parents and senior staff emoticon.... although i tend to give as good as i get but it makes working together rather unpleasant emoticon

for the last week and a half however i have been working with a fabulous midwife... who has loads of knowledge and was willing to shared her knowledge, skills and experience and i really benefited from working with her.

Re: SCBU

hi lulu,

soz to hear that u had a sarcastic b***h of a staff nurse to work with whilst on scbu, she`d obviously forgot that she was a student herslf at some point in her career, so why does she insist on making life difficult for others???

i am pleased however that u have found a very supportive role model at ur new placement, its more nurses/midwives/health visitors like that we need.

hope ur studies are continuing well and that u can get all the support ppossible from future placements.

take care, best wishes

lv

Tracey xx
