Netherlands

well i dunno what possesed me but i offered to go to Groningen in the north of the Netherlands to represent my uni at an international intensive programme.

i knew it was gonna be cold but its bloody freezing Image Image Image

even the swedish girls are freezing... nobody seems too into central heating and i had to go to bed with my furry coat over me to stay warm.

i also had a major culture shock on my first morning when my host student expected me to ride a bike!!! emoticon

i havent been on a bike for over 20 years... nevermind a bike that was mean for somebody 7 foot tall... i think i fell off it about 20 times on the way to uni... and i had the cheek to fall in front of a car who tooted at me to get out the way emoticon

just gonna stick to walking now at least i can get there in one piece!

Anyway for the programme as far as i was aware all i had to do was a presentation... only to find out last week it was an hour long presentation emoticon OMG OMG OMG!!

the programme lasts for 2 weeks and luckily my presentation is last so it gives me a bit of time to tweak it a bit.... but nearly all the students have come in pairs or groups only me and teh girl from spaian are alone emoticon maybe we could do a combined spain and scotland presentation LOL... been there loads on my holidays and broke my leg in Ibiza once... but somehow dont think that counts

the programme is based on the topic of multidisciplinary collaboration and is quite interesing. but we have to do a small project and present that too... but at least theres 6 in the group and this one isnt gonna be an hour long.

there are 29 students from Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Latvia, Czech Republic, Lithuania, USA, Spain, Belgium and Scotland and those not from NL stay with student hosts.

2 of the girls from the czech rep were at my uni last year on electives so it was a total surprise to see them and there are only 4 midwifery students there the 3 of us and anothe czech girl.

if anybody gets the opportunity to come in the future i would say definately go for it... i think they already have links with Leeds and Caley so maybe an interesting prospect for the future.
