Update on worky stuff

started working at family planning doing 2 sessions per week in june... one 3 hours and one 3 1/2 hours.... really like it. emoticon

started working at nurse urology on 4 september. really like it too but feel like my brain isnt any good at remembering stuff... cant remember which drugs are which, what they do, ect.... which is driving me a bit mad... also have to dictate my letters regarding all the pateints i see... that was scary biscuits listening to my voice on tape... dont remember any mention of that at the interview emoticon

all the staff are really nice and that makes a big difference when you work with lovely people emoticon.

at the end of sept i had a kinda induction programme and moved to the lithotriptor centre... we are the main place for lithotripsy in Scotland and have patients from all ove the country....
lithotripsy by the way is high powered shock waves given to treat renal stones by pulverising them..... and its very loud... sounds like somebody hammering very fast emoticon emoticon... but you do get used to it after a while.

the induction programmme was good, it was for 4 weeks and i got to spend time in different clinics and theatres and sit in with the renal oncology nurse and go to the renal oncology MDT where they plan the treatment for all the newly diagnosed patients. saw some interesting surgery from TURPs, PERCs, botulinum toxin bladder injections and even a male uretheroplasty emoticon.

anyway one evening after 10 weeks in urology i was rushing from litho to my family planning job and slipped on the stairs at the fp clinic....

and i broke my leg... a spiral fracture from the mallleolous up the shaft about 4 inches long.... i was in plaster for 5 weeks and off sick for another 3 weeks.

meant my probabtion period has been extended till march and was a bit disappointed about that emoticon although sister said she is happy with me emoticon.

i was supposed to be doing my males caths and sp caths course in dec but was when i was off so has been rescheduled for this thurs... although may be postponed due to lack of interest... apparently im only 1 of three participants :x:.

also one of my learning objectives was to make a new staff pack so will need to get on with that again.... and im also the education link nurse for our unit... which should be good and might be able to get ideas from other peeps... and we dont have any actual uni students in our unit (yet) only health care students which is a kinda scottish version of NVQ students.

also im meeting an editor on friday to discuss collaborating with some authors on a clinical placement guidebook... will keep you informed on this.... also might be handy for staff intro pack.

and im thinking about either topping up my degree to honours if i can find any unis that offer it up here... and if not might just start doing my masters emoticon.... did i really say that emoticon

omg i can talk some ****e hey emoticon emoticon emoticon
