Tele nursing!

I hate bloody using the telephone at work and phoning people like social workers and docs. i dont make excuses not to do it or anything i just jump in and do it but i always have to be 100% sure of what i want to say to them or i start panicking. i even write down things to prompt me if i start stuttering. i even hate rining to make hairdresser appointments and docs appointments! its strange though cos they say i sound confident when i do it but really im papping myself incase i dont understand something they say or ask me something i dont know. i always have the patients notes in front of me incase so i think im doing all the right things- its just confidence i think. im ok speaking face to face. i rang musculo skeletal outpatients to try and chase up some notes the other day and i got really nervous and heated up cos she was asking me questions and i didnt know! all i wanted was for them to send up the notes if they had them! emoticon

Re: Tele nursing!

Hi Lou,

You definitely sound like you are doing all the right things hun having notes at hand etc. I am sure you will get more confident in time on the phone i mean look how far yoru confidence has come on in the last year.

I know what you mean though i am exactly the same on the phone but i am sure we will get there hun. Oh and the fact you sound confident even if you don't feel it is a good thing keep up the fab work hun xxx emoticon

Re: Tele nursing!

Hey Lou,

Hows it going your confidence getting there on the phone. I had to ring a district nurse referral through yesterday for a patient i knew fairly well - it was my first one though. I was a nervous wreck and got bit tongue tied and i got an interigated (sp) to i think as soon as they heard student nurse they started firing questions. They asked me sumut and i started doubting myself etc. However today i rang a more simple one through and felt alot better whos knows what the next one will be like lol. The nurse did apologise for giving me 1000 questions but i know it was only for the patients sake.

Hope your doing ok chick xxx

Re: Tele nursing!

well ill still fret on my next placement probably but yeah its been ok. we had a staffnurse on the phone from endoscopy the other day who really got my goat too as i took the call and she started saying we STILL have your patient in our endoscopy suite and we asked u to come and get him ages ago! I stated i wasnt aware that anyone had called previously to say that he was ready and that someone would be down shortly. she said HAS NO ONE SET OFF YET TO COME AND GET HIM???!! and i said no i didnt think so. well it has to be a TRAINED nurse that comes to collect him!!!! so i said RIGHT OK PET, I'LL SEND A TRAINED NURSE TO COME AND COLLECT HIM FROM YOUR ENDOSCOPY SUITE AS SOON AS SOMEONE BECOMES AVAILABLE!!!!! bloody bugger.
