Sis in law is yellow!

Had phone call from sis in law in hosp quite poorly yellow and in a lot of pain. She is overweight but usually healthyish...looking at the gall bladder at the mo with scans etc. Do any of you know about this part of the body??

yellow colour is usually jaundice which occurs when there is blockage in the flow of bilirubin... its usually stored in the gall bladder and metabolised by the liver..

if she needs her gall bladder removed its pretty much everyday surgery... although they will usually wait until she is in less pain. usually go on low fat diet too.

gall bladder op is called a cholecystectomy and is mostly carried out laprascopicly... 2 or 3 small holes on the abdomen and patients out same or next day. occassionaly need an open chole where they open up the abdomen and remove this requires a longer stay in hospital.

jaundice can be caused by other problems like liver dysfuncion or hepatitis so the docs will assess her and make a diagnosis.

Out of hosp now could have been a gallstone, but goes out through poo(sorry) but pain has gone and yellow colour is going. On a strict no fat diet...wow hard work!! emoticon
