My Final Countdown

Well, it's now less than 4 months until I start, still going through the excitement and fear stages on and off.

I thought I'd make myself this one post to detail my last 4 months of what's been an eventful journey.

So today I posted off my 2nd Disclosure, as my last one was about 12 months ago at my initial interview, now I'm just waiting on confirmation from the bursary peeps as all my bursary paperwork has been done since last November. Then it's just wait on my final instructions from the uni and hope I've someone to hold my hand on my first day...lol... If not Pauline said she'd come and hold it for me...lol...awwww

Also I need to buy a decent bag, big enough for all my stuff but I want it to look decent, can't decide on a backpack style or over the shoulder style....hmmmmm decisions!

Re: My Final Countdown

Well only a little over 3 months to go *gulp*

I went over to my old workplace today and spoke to my boss about getting on the bank while I train. She says she'd love to have me back and is posting me out an application so hopefully that's part of the money worries while at uni over. One of the good things about working there is it's only over the road from me so I can be there quickly. They also allow you to work for just a few hours if that's all that's needed. Say someone is finishing at 5, I could work from 5 till 8. So there should be plenty of opportunities to fit shifts around uni time be there earlies, lates, long days or nights.

When I went over I actually realised how much I missed the place, yet everyone there still wants out, one of the girls is going to apply for my job at the Royal when I leave...lol...

Re: My Final Countdown

So it's now only 2 and a half months to go! In a months time I'm going to hand in my notice to give my boss some extra time in the hope I get any holidays as days off instead of being paid extra, I want the time off before uni starts.

Today I received a letter from admissions asking me YET AGAIN do I want the place, I've already sent back a firm acceptance, my bursary forms AND my disclosure, so now I'm confirming once again I funnily enough DO want the space that I've waited more than a year on..lol..

I'm on annual leave right now and the thought of going back to that place is making me sick, I know it's not the job for me even though I love the job I do, I just don't like some of the staff, it's so hard fitting into a place when half of them have been there for 40 odd years (slight exaggeration!).

So now the money worries begin, I'm going to be down about £300 per month but I suppose on an average month when not on placement I can make about half of that with bank work, so it'll be a case of tightening our belts even more than they are right now, eating out will have to go, or at least be reduced and my Next account will need to get paid off, not added to...lol..

Re: My Final Countdown

One months 3 weeks and 5 days oooeeerrr!! So I know it's just under 2 months, but saying 1 month and so many weeks is so cool!

I had actually wanted to have handed in my notice by now but my boss is on annual leave and I don't want to approach the Depute Sister as it'll be all over the hospital, never mind the ward!!

She should be back at work tomorrow (Monday) but I'll give her a couple of days to settle back in...lol..think she has a management day on Wednesday so that would have been a good day but I'm not at work then. Going to check what her management day is the following week and see if I'm in then, if not, I HAVE to do it at some point over the next couple of weeks if I want to have the day or so I'm due off!

I'm so nervous and shall probably cry, I wish I could be strong but I just hate the feeling of letting people down. To be honest I know I'm not but just can't shake that feeling off.

Re: My Final Countdown

So, yesterday I told my boss I was leaving. I'm not going to do the whole story over again, but my boss was sad to see me go, yet happy that I was moving on to do nursing, saying I'd make a great nurse.

I was so nervous about leaving, more so because I knew before I accepted this job I would be leaving and I felt so bad about that. I'm glad it's done now and I can get on and "enjoy?" the last few weeks at work..lol.. Looking fwd to being out of the house kinda 9 - 5 hours for a while, but I know before long my first placement will be upon me and it'll be back to shifts...oh well.lol..

Re: My Final Countdown

Many more positive reactions at work. Actually quite surprised! They are a very opinionated bunch at work who say what they think so I didn't expect them to be so positive. The student nurses we have on the ward have been helpful too. Handing out email addresses, offering books and advice etc etc!

My disclosure came back clear today so that's another step in the right direction.
Had my photo taken and sent it email to student records.

It's all coming together!

Re: My Final Countdown

Well it's now only 3 weeks to go. It's shocking how quickly the time has gone. This time last year when I was waiting on a reserve list place I never thought I'd get this far.

Still going through the excitment one minute to fear the next stage and I doubt I'll get over this for the next 3 years..lol

I just wish time would hurry up and get on so I can make a start!
