2nd Year

Well I made it through the first year. I remember that feeling of being totally overwhelmed having 5 modules in the first semester, 4 modules in the 2nd semester then right down to 1 in post semester!

This year, it's one module per semester, although they are worth 40 points and not the 20 we've been used to. Also level 2 writing scares me at this point. I know we won't be expected to be perfect at it from the word go, I know I should improve throughout the year, as I did in 1st year.

So, 2nd year starts properly on Tuesday, our group has been split in half (the only adult branch group to not all be together this year) emoticon

Re: 2nd Year

So I made it to the end of the first week. So far, it seems "easier" than 1st year although I'm sure I won't be saying that for long.

Research is "taught" throughout the year and due to the request of former students so is pharmacology. Had a really interesting lecture today on chemotherapy. Our tutor made us laugh earlier in the week by saying "So, now you get to learn all you thought you were going to learn in 1st year"..how true is that!!

The dreaded PBL reared it's ugly head but this week we've been given a scenario and basically we can research what we want to learn individually, which actually makes sense and is what PBL should be all about, but until now it's not been!

It's all so "nursey" this year and none of the airy fairy 'ologies, well not taught anyway, only applied emoticon

Drug Calc Quiz - Check!
Drug Errors reading - check!
Drug Errors questions - check!
Scenario research topic chosen - check!
Research article read - check!
Research booklet done - check!

So all I've left to do this week is research my chosen scenario topic which is to be the genetic link in breast cancer and something for CSL next week which I think is on IV's.

Re: 2nd Year

Now at the end of the 3rd week. The work load is still the same but there is so much reading to be done - sometimes so much to take in. I'm finding the CSL a bit of a bore as there is never time for everyone to have a go and anyway how real is it to pass an NG tube into a piece of wood the shape of a head??

Still strange not being with the whole group from last year but our newly formed group is nice and friendly. Strange also not having my pal there to confer with, run things by and help each other out, it's the only thing I regret about leaving child branch, but you can't base a career around what your best friend is doing. So onwards we go..half way through the theory part of the module and 1st placement of 2nd yr is looming ever closer, I hate the wait wondering where it's gonna be at. Let's hope it's another local one emoticon
