3rd Year exams/essays

Things are hotting up!

Just finished 6 weeks theory block where all our scenarios are geared towards our exam, so there was no winging it this semester!

My diploma module assignment is an exam, unseen and has questions similar too "Mr X was admitted to your medical receiving ward at 3am with a blah blah and a blah blah plan his immediate care" In 2nd year we had something similar and I found it relatively easy but so much more is expected of us this year and the level of knowledge required is pretty much indepth.

One of my degree modules is a critical appraisal of 6 pieces of literature used to answer a practice based question. It's in Powerpoint and I'm pleased to say it's done and being sent as I speak. It was awful I hated every minute of it but it's done. For this module we also have an exam some time in January *groan*

Another degree module we have running over semester A and B was a nursing studies essay on a subject of our choosing concentrating on the nurses role, we had to hand in the first 1000 words of it as a formative assignment and it's done too. Just waiting on the feedback for that so I can begin the next 2000 words which isn't due till April.

So that's it for Semester A.

In Semester B our final nursing studies project is due, we'll have an essay for our diploma module and an essay for our optional degree module, that's all I know at the moment!

Can't wait till it's over - had enough!

Re: 3rd Year exams/essays

So feedback for the first 1000 words of nursing studies was mainly positive, I'm not going to change anything so it's onwards with the next 2000.

Sat here waiting today on the results of the critical review of the literature presentation we did as a group! On Monday I have my diploma module scenario based exam and on Wednesday my multiple choice research exam. Studying is becoming tiring but it'll soon be over!

Re: 3rd Year exams/essays

The Diploma module exam was pretty tough, they've really cranked up the level this year! I managed to answer 2 questions pretty well, another 3 I did ok in and the other 2 were just awful, to do with AWS and post op anxiety?? geeez! No idea when we get results, probably late Feb.

I got 61% for a group presentation on the critique of 6 articles. Was a wee bit disappointed in that mark as it doesn't really reflect the work we all put into it, however, it is level 3 and we all found it tough, so overall I'm pleased.

I sat my online research exam last night, results were posted this morning 61.5%. I'm so happy with that mark. Let me tell you, we all thought how can we fail an online multiple choice exam that you do at home with no one invidulating? Well let me tell you, the questions were so awful and so awfully worded that there was no other option that to guess or to feel lucky you knew the answer. Some of the questions had 8 or 9 lines of text to them!!! Once you'd read through that lot with all them big research words (some we'd never heard of!) you were lost by the time you got to what they were actually asking you. Then the options were sometimes 3 lines long for each option of perhaps 4...they were all similar so you had to work your way through them carefully. Bloody awful, glad it's done!

Re: 3rd Year exams/essays

Diploma module exam - 60%. I'm always disappointed in my marks, I like getting 70%+ but this exam was pretty hard and indepth.

However, considering how hard it was, the high failure rate and the passes all being really low I'm quite happy and content with my mark.

Nursing Studies essay on Sexual dysfunction due end of April, Therapeutic intervention in advanced cancer essay due 1st week of May and my crappy choice Diploma management module essay due end of April. Three 3000 essays due within days of each other. One final essay which must be due around August and that's me.

Well of course we have fortnightly presentations for diploma module and cancer module, a debate to prepare for in cancer module, some "seminar" that we have no details of yet for cancer module, 20 weeks of placement, our portfolio, action plans and reflections to do as well...oh and not forgetting the fortnightly off duty we have to work on...blah!

Re: 3rd Year exams/essays

So. Nursing Studies essay "Sexual Dysfunction in young women following breast cancer treatments - The role of the nurse", I thoroughly enjoyed writing this essay...well not writing it but learning from it...I got 62%. Actually very happy with it since I know I really didn't produce an essay based on my title..lol..I had hardly anything on the role of the nurse so felt sure I'd failed, so to get 62% was amazing.

My Cancer module Essay which I can't remember the title for..lol..but was something along the lines of "Cancer related fatigue - Exercise as an intervention" again another essay I learned lots from writing, I managed 75% which is probably more than I was expecting although I felt sure I'd written a good essay.

So that's me passed the degree element of my course, however that's the least important bit, everyone knows you can't practice unless you pass the diploma part (my course is diploma/degree combined). So I'm waiting on my diploma module result the essay was on managing change. I chose to manage the change from the usual medicine trolley to PODS at the bedside. We had 3 essay choices and managing change was the least popular choice so of course being me, that's the one I chose..lol. I felt I wrote a reasonable essay but you just never know. My facilitator is off sick and some of my group are not getting their results till Tuesday at the earliest so I have to sweat a little longer.

All that's left is one diploma module essay which is somehow related to our portfolio, rumour has it that it's a reflective piece. Really couldn't care less, just want to know what it is and make a start, we'll find out on Tuesday!

Re: 3rd Year exams/essays

Well did **** for my managing change essays..only got 50% and felt I'd written a good essay, marker had other ideas..lol..at least it's a pass.

Just finished my final ever essay, it was on my professional development over the 3 years, using my portfolio to demonstrate an area within practice I've developed in, I chose EWS. It's due on Friday and it's by far not the best essay I've written, but it's done and I'll hope for a pass. Can't believe that's it essay wise.
