posticon Hello There Diary..

Well, January 06 seems like as good a time as any to start a diary, so here go's.

I'm a mature (makes you sound like cheese, im only 34 for goodness sake!) 2nd year child branch student nurse. For the last god knows how many years i've been an NNEB nursery nurse, Playworker and NVQ Childcare assessor. I wanted to do nursing ages ago but at the time it was only general which isn't for me. So, when a friend who is also doing nurse training told me i could go straight into branch i thought 'it's now or never', applied Sept 03, interviewed and accepted Feb 04, started course Sept 04.

AND I'VE NEVER LOOKED BACK

Re: Hello There Diary..

Yeah it is, the lecturers at Hudd are mostly good eggs. ( LOL think i've got a food fetish).
The strange thing about 2nd year for me is the class size - gone from 140 to just a nice group of 25...we all fit in one little classroom. emoticon no more squashing into roasting lecture theatres.
Just finished placement before Xmas so just waiting to go back into uni now. emoticon

Re: Hello There Diary..

So is that all the child branchers then? 25?

It's going to be strange when we split up cos i have friends on all the branches :s

I go on placement tomorrow, which is scary. I don't think i'll get much sleep tonight.

Yeah, the lecturers are mostly really nice. The one or two that there have been "issues" with have been on other branches so i won't have too much to do with them. Don't get me wrong, there's been nothing major.

Re: Hello There Diary..

Well, it's now June 2006 (6 months since i began this diary) so it's about time for an update.

At the moment im not in uni as all lectures, exams and presentations for my 2nd year have finished. emoticon Thats a nice feeling i can tell 'ya. I begin my final year 2 placement in July, which will last 9 weeks and is on a childrens general medical unit. It's where i had my long placement in the 1st year and i had a great mentor so im looking forward to it.
So, to fill in my free time (and to earn much needed cash lol) i have been workng as a nursery nurse in a local J&I school, which means that im on two weeks half term at the moment ( emoticon ). i start back on the 12th just for four weeks which will take me up to starting placement.
Im getting a bit scared at the thought that i will be a 3rd year in September.....the time has flown by. I remember my first day, travelling in on the train thinking 'OMG three years with no money, lots of study and what the hell am i doing?'.
Not that i regret a minuit of my decision to retrain. Since starting uni i have passed my driving test (which i was never able to do before - reckon its a confidence thing), im a student rep, i've done well in my studies and more to the point - im enjoying it!!!
Dont get me wrong, i've had some really crappy days in placement but i went into it with my eyes open and didnt expect everything to be all hunky dory all of the time.
So, 3rd year in Sept,...im not convinced i know enough to be a third year lol. My classmates and myself have had such different experiences on the wards its hard to compare our knowledge and skills. I worry that i have never done NG feeding, which my friends have but then they say 'but ive not done any NPAs' which i have done. So, as the old saying go's its swings and roundabouts.
Well, this month will be my birthday, my cousins wedding, nephews birthday, and my sister has her baby scan to find out which flavour she's getting (lol the scan is on the 6/6/06 emoticon thought that was sooooooo funny, devil child).
Wow, think ive written quite enough for now.
OMG forgot to mention that i am sooooooooooo looking forward to the World Cup. Generaly im more of a rugby fan but i always get sucked ito all the football fever that international games give. Bit sad that Wales aren't in it emoticon but will be supporting England. You know, i think we can win, lol!
