posticon Official Student Nurse

Well just finished my induction week! It was really good to get started, and meeting the students I'll be working with for the next 4 years etc Got holiday weekend up here, so off Friday Monday, cant wait to get back in on tuesday!!

Filled out all the official forms, document checks and recieved timetable and module info books. We even had our first PBL trigger session. I found that quite difficult as I am used to leading and participating in group discussions. It was very obvious the difference between the 4 mature students in my group, and the 10 school leavers. I really had to try and not say to much as the mature students were dominating the discussion cause the school leavers were being shy. Also it wasn't my place to try and encourage them to speak as I wasnt chairperson. This PBL is going to take some getting used to!

My first essay is 1000 words on discussing either the advantages or disadvantages of PBL. Can think of lots of both, have yet to decide which one to write about!

Also have to work on prsentation about history of nurse education.

THis is all fun, I think I am going to enjoy the next 4 years!!

Re: Official Student Nurse

I only got 45% for that essay emoticon

PBL takes some time getting used to, and I think it is a totally different way of learning for the school leavers as they are generally never taught to work in groups and to share their thoughts, opinions or ideas. Mature students usually have had a job where team-working is essential and their views are heard...

It takes time, but everyone should get used to working in that way. Then again some people just take the piss and do not work.. which is hard especially if you are working with them.

Good luck for the next 4 years Pauline. emoticon emoticon
