Re: Access courses!

midwifery is even more science based tahn nursing so i would definately say the life sciences is more appropriate for both.

you already know what its like to be a midwifery student so i dont think you need extra course unless you wanna do it... maybe something taht isnt going to take all your time up... maybe something like training as a breast feeding counsellor or involved in the NCT.... dont actually know what homestart is... take something similar to sure start? emoticon

good luck

Re: Access courses!

I've actually decided to do 3 "A" levels via distance learning, Psycholgy, Sociology and Biology. emoticon They are half-price at the mo, so the money I'll save on petrol will easily cover the cost, and some! emoticon
Homestart is part of Surestart, volunteers are trained to work at home with families of children Under 5, who have the need for extra support...basically unpaid family support workers....but you feel like you really achieve something, and it is always good for CV's etc. I actually think my previous Midwifery experience will work against me, as lack of committment, so I want to make sure I look dedicated and have experience of working with women and their families. emoticon I remember before I looked into the Diploma, UEA didn't accept applicants on the shortened programme without relevant experience of working with women/families, GYnae or similar, so I'm thinking longterm! emoticon Can't wait for the next application cycle to gat underway! emoticon

Re: Access courses!

previously starting a course never works against you unless you really took the piss.

what it shows is taht although for personal reasons you couldnt stick with it at the time you are still commited to doing the course and tahts why you have reapplied.... your desire has never gona away.

i too thought taht my previous training would have gona against me but instead it worked in my favour as a positive... i knew kinda what was expected of me, the situation that resulted in me failing was sucjh a one-off nothing liek was sure to happen again, id grown up and matured, and i still really wanted to be a nurse/midwife and i had set goal in mind.

and even when i did have just as major setbacks as i had the first time i really wanted to prove myself so was very committed to my course.

you have to show them your positives and turn things which you feel are negative into strengths.

good luck emoticon

Re: Access courses!

Thanks for that Lulu. emoticon I'm hopefully getting myself sorted, I start my bank HCA induction on Monday, so really looking forward to that. Have cancelled the MCA work as it was too far from home and although I would of loved it, I'm now focusing on nursing and the bank gives me the flexibility to study without balancing childcare. There'll be enough of that if I get a nuring place! emoticon Just got to make sure I'm gonna pass my "A" levels! emoticon Hope you're enjoying the new job!

luv to all
