such a crap day yesterday
Hi Everyone,
I had such a crap shift at work yesterday, i have worked 64 hrs this week as we are so short staffed and one of my clients has quite profound needs and is epileptic, he has about 1 seizure every 2-3 mths and it is very well controlled with medication: Epilim Chrono and Lamotrigine. Yesterday he had a seizure in the morning, then one at lunchtime lasted a little longer than usual i tried phononing his GP who said i will ring back later see how he is. When she rung back at 3 she said i will do a home visit; i will be here anytime between 5-7 after clinics etc. At 4:15 my client had another seizure. so i called an ambulance as it was very rare him having 3 in one month, let alone a day. The ambulance came and said u will have to hurry up getting his stuff ready as we arent based in this area and we finish at 6. At the hospital we were in the corridor for 5mins with the paremedics for the paramedics to hand-over to the nurse and the paramedic said i wish they would bloody hoorey do they think we havent got a life? Thr nurses didnt have a lot of time, they were rushed off their feet, but the Dr. who dealt with my client was wonderful, he as foreign looked like egyptian and prob about 26 he was so caring towards my client who has no communication. The Dr. was a senior house officer and respected my client 100%, spoke to him, provided physical prompts, i cant explain how great he was, he was a credit to the hospital he was patient, and understanding and kept us informed of blood results all the way. When he said we could go home we needed transport the nurses kept sayin they would sort it but they never did so he sorted it out, he asked a student nurse to make me a drink and sort out some food for us. This Dr. was so good looking, he had lovely eyes and smile (calm down carla!) The Dr. even helped me change the clients pad.
Often the hospital gets very bad press but my experience was great i was just shattered! The nursing care could have been better but they were very busy.
We are so short staffed at work at the minute it is driving me mad!!!!!!!!! seem to be working with people who really dont care and it upsets me.
carla x
p.s when i had the appointment with the consultant 3wks ago r.e. my shoulder, found out it wasnt my shoulder it was my neck discs and nerves, my appointment for my MRI scan has come today, its next week (really quick)
