My exciting life ha ha Hiya everyone.Thought I would write a few of my thoughts down and hopefully laugh when I re read them in a few years time!
I am nearly at the end of my first year adult diploma and it has been a mad and crazy year. I have laughed, cried thrown my books out the door and threatened to drown the dog if he jumped up anymore. Not the ideal model of a nurse! Maybe I should have gone into mental health.
To everyone starting out soon - good luck, you will enjoy it and be prepared for emotions you never knew you had. It had been a long time since I went to school and felt very dubious about all the acedemic work but have managed a high c and an a15 and an a14 so am chuffed to bits. I have experienced things I never thought I would and have been priviliged to be able to help people when they are at their lowest.
To the people who are at the end of the course- OH i envy you!
I am just starting my next PBL presentation so had better pop off to do some work before my 15 hour shift 2mrw. Oh joy.
Keep smiling everyone
xxxx
Re: My exciting life ha ha you had me lol at the dog jumping up thing! hope yu continue to enjoy the rest of your course! only 9 months left for me! yay!
--- RGN at last : ) now all the stress was worth it!!!!
Re: My exciting life ha ha Went into uni yesterday to do some work with my group on our PBL presentation. We decided what we all had to do then finished for the day. Drove home and had good intentions of sitting outside and doing some work. Sun lounger out, dogs sunbathing and not jumping up and a glass of full fat proper coke in my hand. Needless to say the work went out the window and I spent the afternoon cooking in the sun. I am now the proud owner of two white stripes on my shoulders (will not mention the white stripes where my belly was rolled up) and had done no work. It was so nice to just kick back and do nothing but am now working hard to get it done as I am on my first night shift tonight.ARGGGH
Took the girls to school this morning and then got back into bed to get some sleep before tonight. Well the phone never stopped, the postman had a parcel and the dogs jumped on my head so I have had no sleep and am dreading tonight. The poor postman had to face me wild hair and pjs and the dogs are locked in their bed and the phone unpulled!
I have a suitcase full of work for the sister on my ward as fingers crossed she will do my assessment tonight- if I can stay awake.Oh the joys of training to be a nurse. xx
Re: My exciting life ha ha YEY! I passed my clinical placement!! It was not easy trying to explain drug calculations at four in the morning whilst trying to keep my eyes open and in desperate need of a nicotine boost. I went on my shift armed with 3 carrier bags full of work that she had asked me to do and tried to smile and talk my way through it and answer as much as I could.
The night itself was pretty good although very busy. I am on a very heavy ward and I think that they knew I had come on shift and within 20 mins I had 7 wet beds to change. I took my first catheter out so am pretty pleased.
Had a death which is always hard and felt wuite choked up as the relative came in and broke her heart bless her. I just couldn't stop my tears but felt priviliged that I was with the patient when they passed away. Does it get easier so to speak or will I always feel emotional?
Anyhow on a brighter note, I have had 2 hours sleep this morning so am doing a bit of uni work then bed.
Lulu - I usually end up staying up until the early hours as its easier for me to work once girls in bed but oh I suffer the next day, I agree with them mucking up your routine.
I am off 2mrw watch it rain!!
Re: My exciting life ha ha im glad you passed your clinical placement! hope your enjoying the sunshine where you are, ive just been in the garden on my sun lounger! bliss!

Re: My exciting life ha ha Suzie p can you believe its raining!! There I was all set with my tummy tucked into some shorts and a good girly book and chocolate to hand and the rain came!! It is still muggybut wet! Thought about finishing some work but was overwhelmed with the desire for sleep. Can't believe how doing one night has mucked up my routine so badly. Am working with the social workers tomorrow which should be good and gives me a bit of a break from the ward. I can't wait until I can put 9 months to go on a ticker.
Re: My exciting life ha ha trust me it comes quick, i do not feel ready to be a qualified nurse in 9 months and still feel that there is one huge mountain to climb!

Re: My exciting life ha ha A lot of 3rd years say that at my uni but I bet once you get out there all your training will fall into place and you will be fab. xxx
Re: My exciting life ha ha Didn't do my update my on my day with the social workers!! It was fab. They drink endless amounts of coffee and have really fab comfy chairs. She was a lovely woman and took so much time to take me through what they do and showed me all the sec 2 and sec 5 and what they are for. I learnt more from her than from the whole of my placement I am on at the moment although on the ward I am number one woman for identifying pooh colour changes!!
Everyone in the office was lovely and she has said she will take me out on a visit when I have time. I have spoke to the uni to see if I can use this for made up time and the man from del monte he says yes so YEE HA I am going to shadow this woman like she was my mum!! It was so refreshing to be with someone who wanted to help me and took the time to sit down and go through things from A to B and back again. God bless social workers!!!
