London here I come!!
Hi guys,
After the initial introduction I feel compelled to tell you a bit more. I'm sure we don't enter into this profession lightly, I sure haven't it has taken me 4 years to decide finally what I wanted to do. To cut a long story short I felt the need to change 4 years ago but couldn't decide then my eldest son was diagnosed with a Ewings Sarcoma (bone cancer) of the pelvis in July 2004. We underwent 12 months of chemo and a huge operation where he had half of the lower right side of his pelvis removed. He was treated at the QE in birmingham and I witnessed first hand what a difference nurses made. If it hadn't been for those dedicated people Sean and the rest of us would not have come through the ordeal still smiling! So thats why I decided to start the wheels in motion to becoming a nurse! We met many fantastic people, some we will never see again. One young lady was Sophie. She and Sean were the babies of the unit at 16 and went through chemo together. They became very close, she had a profound affect on us all. Unfortunately Sophie lost her battle with cancer in December 2005. The world lost a true star.If you haven't lost interest by now and clicked off I will get to the point! I run as a hobby and I am running the London Marathon on April 23rd 2006 in memory of sophie and to raise funds for the teenage cancer trust. I completed 20 miles today with only a 23 miler to go next week before we start to come down in preparation for the big day. At last I know I can do this and have Soph with me all the way! This ones for you Gal!! I will keep you all posted.
Adios amigos (for now)
Gill

Re: London here I come!!
Just as a quick PS Sean is doing really well. He is in remission and is trying to learn to walk again. In 12 months he has gone from a wheelchair to crutches and actually walked unaided for the first time with his physio last week!
