Super Numery???? My A**e!!
Placement 1, The renal unit am working mainly long days, that doesn't worry me as I am used to doing long hours on my feet and the we are so busy the day flies by! My mentor is lovely, an excellent nurse, just not very good at teaching and really hasn't got a clue what the CAPD is all about!! and how much work is involved. She makes dates to review but when it comes to it is always too busy.
At best I am an extra pair of hands. I've already got a job as an HCA don't really want another and not get paid for it!
Am starting to feel frustrated with the lack of progress that I seem to be making and have resigned myself to getting on with the PC's as best as I can, alone!!
The link tutor came in Friday and I managed to get some of my frustrations out but still feel She said that even though the opportunities were there you had to really to get them! The ward wasn't very pro-active with students and at best tolerated them which is no help for me! She also commented when seeing my hours that I had pulled the short straw! Like I said I don't mind doing long days but am rostered on 12.5 hours on Christmas day and New years eve!
But having said that I have managed to see some amazing stuff (only because I have literally stuck my nose in everywhere!)like an ultrasound guided kidney biopsy and some of the patients are really great and the staff are nice and some days I wonder why I'm feeling like this as my mentor is letting me do stuff like injections, IVI's, tube feeds, NG insertion, dressings and wound care. As far as the PC's are concerned I will have to persevere and see how it goes I just wish that my mentor would talk to me while we are going about our work I would be able to cover many of the activities in the CAPD easily. Take care all.
Adios Amigo
