My first day on placement!!!
Turned up 10 minutes early but couldnt get in. the main entrance is locked until 8am. Nobody had told me that and so I stood there like a lemon until a lovely lovely hca came and showed me where the staff entrance was.
Whilst stood at the door, looking like a lemon, the fire alarms had started to go off. When the lovely lovely hca showed me the way to the nurses station all the staff were stood there waiting for the fire brigade.
When the fire brigade turned up they couldnt get into the room which was supposedly on fire because nobody had the key. Turns out theyd had the locks changed but hdnt given anyone in the hospital the new key.
The fire alarms continued to go off for about an hour by which point my head was really starting to hurt. It was bliss when they finally stopped.
Later that day the resource manager was SHOUTING at the ward sisterat the nurses station in front of everybody and I mean really shouting.
After that little unprofessional incidence resource manager and 2 hcas were sat at atable in a 4 bedder discussing issues at work while 2 patients were sat eating their dinner.
So, to summarise, i spent the whole of yesterday standing around with my hands in my pockets and shadowing a nurse that did sod all!!!
Lets hope today goes a little better.
