M interew at Coventry University
Tuesday 23rd Jan 2007
I went for my interview at Coventry University today. Mark dropped me off at 11am. Eventually found my way to Reception (a room full of around 30 other wannabe nurses. It was standing room only in there!
Test one – our interview was taking place up 3 flights of stairs & there wasn’t room in the lift! Puffed out we all reached the top.
The admissions tutor (can’t remember her name) was really nice with a good sense of humour. She immediately put us at ease & gave us loads of useful information about the Adult Diploma course at Coventry.
After that there was a written questionnaire for us to fill in about why we wanted to do nursing & in particular why adult nursing? What preparation we would do between now & starting if we get in, what skills would we bring to the nursing course & what changes did we need to make in our lives to enable us to do the course.
Obviously being a Mum of two boys Jacob aged 11 & Joseph aged 7yrs, they are my main concern & I wouldn’t be doing this if they were going to be drastically affected.
Then there was the dreaded group discussion although it wasn’t too bad in the end! We were split into groups of 5 or 6. There were 6 in our group. (Me, Simon who’s is 21 & from Sheffield, Sarah who is still at school, another girl who also is still at school up North, Pooja who is around 20 & got turned down last year for failing her Maths & another girl who was really quiet.
We were all taken to another room by 2 tutors. The topic we had to discuss for 20 minutes was “Why should student nurses work a variety of shifts in a variety of places?” This was reasonably easy & commonsense but did have a tend to fizzle part way through!
After 20 long minutes we were allowed to collect our documents & go home.
Rang Mark & went to Varcity (a bar just around the corner) with Pooja, Simon & Sarah while we waited for our lifts.
Just have to wait now, the tutor said it could be 2 weeks before we know.
