Contributers Poll

This poll is intended to categorize the members of our forum, into what they wish to do to help us increase the gallery of ships in the SWDA.

The selections are not designed to limit our members. If you choose to specialize, then you will have a specialized title and criteria, but you will not be limited to that.

The following is an explanation of all the selections.

I want / do contribute - in all or some factors concerning the SWDA. Title: Non-Commissioned Officer

I'd like to be a Resource Gatherer - Primary responsibility would be to put together relevant written material as well as graphic material for any particular design.Title: Intel Officer

I'd like to be a Concept Artist - Making sketches or designs of ships that do not have canonical images and can only be conceptualized from text. This also would include technical designs or proposals for equipment, like weapons, landing gear, control layouts, and engine components.Title: Strategic Imager

I'd like to be a 3D Modeller - similar to Conceptual Artist, this would be for those members that are proficient in 3d modelling that can assist in making particularly difficult shapes in 3d to assist in the 2d drawing process.Title: Structural Engineer

I'd like to be an Orthografic Draftsman - This would be for members to assist in the proper positioning and proportion of each view of the deckplans.Title: Tactical Designer

I'd like to be a Deckplan Draftsman - For members who want to assist in the creation of internal components for the ships, in the style of the SWDA.Title: E-Tac Specialist (Ergonomic Tactical Specialist)

I'd like to be a Consultant - For members who wish to contribute to the overall direction of the design and ensure that the design remains faithful to the source material and the subject matter, as well as maintaining plausibility of the projects.Title: Technical Analyst

I can do all / some of the above - for multi talented members who just can't resist to put their 2 credits worth in.Title: Spec Ops

I do not wish to contribute - for members who like the projects we work on, but are more interested in the result than the process of creating the deckplans.Title: Imperial Tourist

The selection process will also depend on members posting in this thread to identify what they would like to do.

Ultimately, this selection process will also aid in our ability to select Core membership, which is not limited merely to artistic contribution, but also informational assistance.

thank you and kind regards,
Lucas

I voted to contribute by consulting/Gather Resources. I have access to most of the RPG books so I can assist with some of the image gathering.

Re: Contributers Poll

I choose to contribute but did not select how because, unlike many of the artists on this forum my work isn't the most enlightened or award winning. Individuals like Lucus, Frank, or VOID, even you psCargile, deserve the positions they have because the level of their art shows the years of effort they have put into improving it.

Some of us have only begun to expand our boundries, pushing past the minor modifications that we normally do to freighters and taking on much more difficult tasks such as designing ships or ships components from the ground up. We, and by this I mean myself, do not feel comfortable selecting a more specialized position because we (I) do not feel that our (my) work lives up to the standards the rest of the this community has set.

If that makes any sense.

We are trying to gauge how members want to contribute, not if they feel skilled enough. If you are modding a deckplan, that's your area of expertise right there. Deckplan draftsman. That doesn't mean you will be assigned a deckplan, or any particular work. All work is still voluntary and at your own pace.
The idea is to organize the less talented and to get as many willing contributors doing whatever it is that they can to grow the SWDA.

I voted for working on all aspects of deckplan design (the second-to-last choice). This works well for me because I can complete a project with relative artistic autonomy, preventing the spats over creative control that plague the collaborative efforts I've been involved with in the past.

Lucas- 3d models can also help provide 3d images of SWDA-produced ships on the main site so prospective "customers" can get a better idea of what the ship looks like (Orthos and specs are nice, but seeing the ship parked on a landing pad can seal the deal).

And what if were not sure what would be the best way for us to contribute?

Lucas P,

I voted for Can do all / some of the above. The reason is in the many forms, vessel classes, and names of the ship I am currently trying to get done, and on the web... to be yelled at by the members of theis forum. I have had to do a little of this and a little of that to get things, on board ship, to fit. I want to contribute more than what I am currently able to do, than telling this forum my limited opinion about (insert topic).

I chose all/most because I can do some of that now and will learn to do more as time permits. I can gather resources and consult. I want to learn more of the drawing part. That will take time to practice.
