Re: Contributers Poll

I figured NCO for me... I try to contribute a bit here and there, though some of it may be of dubious value. I'll keep trying to help "un-suck" things and hopefully not make them more sucky...

I suggest this gets thrown out the window.

I like to try and help, so I guess that leaves me with NCO or Tourist.

Re: Contributers Poll

The lament is that since the forum has opened in November 2005, only 3 deckplans have been completed and put on the main site. What we have here is 110+ members and about 15% contributing, and a majority of those contributors are doing almost the whole process of getting a deckplan completed.
I think that the people that are multitalented let themselves be known right away by showing what they can do. That leaves a lot of people that are question marks.
I hope there are more people that want to contribute in some way, yet don't know how, or don't feel as if they have the skills, than people that just want to watch.

These suggestions do not change the sequence in which deckplans are done. These suggestions aren't going to force people that want to do everything to limit themselves. These suggestions are designed to encourage people to help out where and however they can, without coersion.
Based on the poll, one could rank themselves on what they would like to do. My ranking is:

1) Consultant
2) Conceptual Designer
3) 3D Modeler
4) Orthographer

Scenerio:
Let's say Frank initiates some Lost Ship threads. He puts in the stats and whatnot. The resource guys start posting their findings--which is how it is already done. After all the research is done and there is no visual for the ship at all, the thread is OPENED for a concept artist to take over--at any time one of them wishes. Let's say its me. I post some idea and we all discuss them and go through the process of refining the design. At this time another artists should be able to post his/hers ideas as well. The best design should be used. After the design is finalized, we must decide if it requires a 3d model (and a use of 3d models can be part or all of the concept stage). If it does, the thread is OPENED for a 3D Modeler to take over the project. If not--and after the 3d model phase--it goes to an Orthographer to get the exterior views done. Once that is finalized it goes to the interior Deckplanner. After that is finalized, its ready to be added to the main site.
Now I believe that a team of people can work on Orthos and Deckplans, provided there is a Team Leader that is putting all the pieces together.
Also if one person wants to do everything, they should say so.
Back to the scenerio, after I'm done with conceptualizing, I am free to move on to another design that needs visualized, or I can find a thread that is OPEN for a 3d Modeler or Orthographer, those being the three jobs I'm most interested in (hypothetically). This plan allows members to steam away on one project, or for some to move around helping where and when they can.
That is if there is enough members wanting to contribute to bring about an increase in production.

So we have about 17 people completing 3 deckplans in 5 months. How long did it take before? With how many people working on them?

Maybe some of the members are just here because they think this is cool stuff. Maybe some simply don't have the time to contribute as much as they would like. I know I have promised to complete some stuff that is way overdue, but my schedule does not permit much extra right now.

Why add a label if it is not going to change things?

Let's rank people by numbers, the lower your number the greater your importance. You don't want to be number 113.... do you???

Yes, a team is better than a single person. Why can't this be done now? Why is a label needed?

How is this so different than now?

This is starting to sound like a job. I already have 1 that is more than a pain. Don't turn something I enjoy into another.

Re: Contributers Poll

Grtak, this initiative is not to make people think they are at work, but to get them to focus more on what they like to do and help them to examine what they like more and if they like, to contribute those talents and interests to assist us as well.

This is not the proper thread for a discussion on this matter. if you would like to make your views known more appropriately, please create a new thread in General Discussion and clip and paste the comments from this thread there.

your title of Imperial Tourist is that because you do not wish to contribute actively, and that is not a bad thing, it is a choice...just as this thread is intended to be.

thank you,
Lucas

Sorry Lucas, but this is the proper thread. I again ask that you remove the tourist label from my postings. I would much rather have no label. Besides I have filled your criteria for other labels.

Lucas I love this site. I love the work being done. I wish I could help out more, but at present, I just don't have the free time (real life is keeping me pretty busy).

I voted for tourist just because of my lack of free time (although I would love to help out).

This site is GREAT for us RPGers.
