Member Titles Suggestions
Greetings everyone,
I have been sitting here nursing a hangover and decided that the member titles of 'SWDA Forum Member' is a pretty boring title for the general membership, and I have to admit that I created that title for one major reason.
This board has the feature where there are two ways to assign titles to the members;
1) by the amount of posts that you make - I have to admit that I find this method of generating a title to be less than cool, because it encourages people to just post crap to lift up their status. Frank and I agree that this will likely never happen, and garbage posts will be deleted.
2) Manually. Now I am less than excited about this due to the growing number of members we have, meaning that it is a lot of work and will only increase. However, it does mean that each member can have a unique title under their name, which I like a lot.
While the default title will remain SWDA Forum Member, I would like to ask all of you, if you would like to have a title system based on number of posts or manually assigned.
if a graded title system is preferred, I would like some suggestions as to how the titles would be listed.
regards,
Lucas

Re: Member Titles Suggestions
Over at the Palladium Megaverse forums they have sort of a combination of the two -- you can give yourself a title, but you are also assigned a rank based on number of posts. For example, mine shows up as the following:
Uncle Servo
Member of the Thread Derailment Alliance
Knight
Would it be possible to do something like that here?

from what I can tell, it is not a two tier system. I have not been able to figure out how if it is possible to put two titles in a name...unless you make it part of the Avatar for example.

Re: Member Titles Suggestions
Alright then... could you set it to give a title based on # of posts with a manual option? That way if someone doesn't like "SWDA Member" they could enter their own title.

no, that would mean making everyone a moderator, and I am afraid, that will not happen.

--- "You can call me GR" -GRtak
If people read this, they would not use more than two letters when addressing me.

Re: Member Titles Suggestions
Okay then... how about this:
If this system setup requires a moderator to manually enter a title, then how about allowing members who want a manual title to request a title change from the moderators?
For instance, let's say I wasn't impressed with the title 'SWDA Forum Member' and instead wanted 'Forensic Reverse-Engineer.' I could send my request to you/Paul/Frank and if nobody had a problem with it you could change the title yourself.
This way, the mods at least have some control over what titles get posted (some people might want some less-than-family-hour choices), and while not everyone is going to care what their title is those who do have an option.
As for myself, I don't have a problem with titles being assigned to me on a post-count basis so long as the titles are good-natured and SW-related... which brings up the question of what kind of titles would they be?

Re: Member Titles Suggestions
well, that is what this thread is about.
I can create a post count list of titles if that is preferrable. People can also have custom titles if they want, but it will replace the post count title.
And yes, I will take requests for the title change and manually apply them if people want to do that....that is why I said it was generally a lot of work, due to the fact that we are growing.

Lucas

Re: Member Titles Suggestions
Let me get this straight, you want people to have the option of titles, but you don't want to make the requested changes yourself because of the anticipatede workload?
Then why suggest it in the first place?

Re: Member Titles Suggestions
not quite...I am merely stating that it would require a lot of attention. But if it's what people want, then I am willing to do it.
