Slimming it down a bit?

I was just having a browse at all of the sections there are and how many seem to be either barely used (adult, computer gaming, most of the reference sections) or obsolete (Core). Might it be an idea to have a bit of a reshuffle based on what would actually be of most use?

Might I suggest?
-Combining the RPG and Computer Gaming section into one, just Gaming.
-Combine the Reference sections into one (most projects seem to go straight to the drawing stage anyhow)
-Get rid if the Core and Adult only section. The Core is pointless if it’s open to all (and there are no particularly useful topics there anyhow, the only thing really done there was the Crow and that s now in the PC section). The Adult section is visited just about never (last post a month ago) and there’s really nothing there requiring censoring anyhow.

Another possibility would be to reorganize the in progress sections along the same lines as the gallery (i.e. a star fighter section, capital ship section and so on). I think it makes more sense to have categories divided up by type rather than source.

some good suggestions. I particularly like the idea of sub categorizing the sections to ship types, but then again, I think we'll find that freighters will be the most used and then we face the same problem that you are mentioning.

As far as the adults only section is concerned, I agree with you, it is more just random topics and I don't really see anything worthy of censorship. As you are probably aware, that was to placcate certain other individuals overactive concerns as to what teen agers are interested in. I think I might just rename it and remove the restriction entirely.

the question is...what to call it.

As for the other sections, I would really rather not de-organize them. We are still growing and it is best to make things recognizably easy to find, so I don't think I'll be reorganizing as you suggested for the gaming section. It's just that there aren't really that many new Star Wars games out there. the latest being Empire At War, and the Expansion isn't due out for a while....

regards,
Lucas

How about just cleaning them up. There are a ton of broken links toughout the forum.

the only real broken links are image links from Frank. I cannot fix those.

Not true, the last reorganization left a few.

But it is nice to look back at what was discussed and pondered on previously. Also, a new perspective to an old problem cannot happen if old topics are deleted.

Actually it seems quite an even split at the moment (if you only consider projects that are 'active')

I partially agree... It was also to accommodate a perceived need from some members and it proved fruitless. I’d go with just straight deleting; there is really nothing worth keeping (same with the core threads).

As for the gaming section, if I want to talk about gaming I go to the Edge forums. It seems too unrelated (particularly went we have the Game research and development sections already).

I just think a ‘spring clean‘ would be nice.

well, I will not delete any threads unless they are offensive in nature. I may archive some, but delete? never, if only for posterity.

slay - can you indicate specifically which thread has a broken link that is not posted by Frank?

I could, but then I'd be doing your job for you.

No Slay, you would actually be helping Lucas do his job as forum administrator.

We'll fix broken links wherever we find them (I purged a few out of the link archive in fact) -- but we're simply not able to spot everything. If you find a bad link, please let us know exactly where it is.

Now, back on topic...

I agree that the CORE should be phased out, but the projects therein should first be moved to their respective category WIP forums. The Crow of course would be an exception as you've re-started the thread in the PC forum.

I wouldn't have a problem with combining the RPG and PC gaming categories... even when you throw in the console games there haven't been a HUGE number of games (and certainly aren't that many current).
