Re: Project Roster

As far as I'm concerned, the Starlight HAS been abandoned (unless Rav3n would like to venture forth with a status update). It's been over 3 months without a single post.

But the Starlight is in reality only one of many projects that have fizzled out in recent months. This to me justifies the need for a 'project roster' for our purposes if nothing else -- so we can keep track of projects that are still being worked on.

We can also compile a list of 'ghost ships' whose artists have abandoned the work, and when someone wants to tackle a project we will have a ready-made list of suggestions. Even better, most of these will already have work done on them so he/she won't have to start from scratch.

Well, I didn’t know it was “slam Slay for having an opinion day”.

I don't even remotely know, what you are talking about.

There is another thread here that talks about the gallery and several members expressed an interest in the parts section. It was said there that it is not to far down the list of things that you are going to do:

“To do list:

1. Complete the detailed description of the Nella. The expanded capsule it has now, is more of a provisional solution.
2. Complete the Nella 352. That will be done very fast, once the complete description of the 342 is done.
3. Complete the Nella 380. Once #1 and #2 is done, I can outsource most of that work to a volunteer.
4. Complete the Parts list. Once #1 and #2 are done, I will take this into phase 2, which will take very little time, but a tremendous initial effort.
5. Continue work on my Czerka Yacht”

Then you suggest a new project to add to the gallery, so I merely suggested the need to stay on track with the things already listed to do.

The planning stage is a part of the process of a finished project. It is the start of the process.

@Witzig
I never said that I knew what needs to be done first, second or otherwise. I only tried to make a suggestion.
As for programming the gallery, I offered my assistance and it was not only not taken, but not desired.

“As of right now I would not put the parts & accessories on high priority due to the fact that so far all the ship components come from ships on Frank's site. “

As previously stated, as long as we give Frank credit for his work it’s okay to use.

“There are of course the original images that can be found on the Void's Gunstore and kitbasher threads -- but then again, you can find them there already.”

Then why bother with a gallery at all? All finished ships will be in the forum somewhere.

Well, I wasn't actually slamming your opinion... just disagreeing and giving my reasons for doing so.

Slay, I just took a look at Frank's site and read the "Restrictions" blurb on his "Legal Disclaimer" section. It clearly states that the use of anything "exclusive" found on his website -- "Graphics" being specifically listed -- without his express written permission is prohibited.

Frank may have told you off-list that it was okay so long as he got credit, and he may have said it to someone else as well... but to my knowledge he has not come on these forums since the breakup and posted in any thread his express written permission to use the graphics from his site. Until he does -- or until you can provide a link to the post where he already did -- then as far as I'm concerned using his artwork in whole or in part is hands off.

Well, we figured Void and Lucas didn't have enough to do already... oh, I'm sorry, that was more of a rhetorical question wasn't it? emoticon

If you'll remember, I said that when we get a bigger stockpile of deckplans to dissect I would be in favor of making the parts/accessories a higher priority. Those images I referred to can be pulled from those threads until that time.

If you really want to speed the process along, then be part of the solution -- go download the Nella image off the gallery site and start chopping.

New project? What new project? Are you referring to the Project Roster? The 'General Artwork' gallery? The 'Floorplans' gallery?

If you're referring to the Project Roster, I think you're way off base. A Project Roster would in the end likely save time as it'd allow any of us at a glance, including the mods, to see who is working on what and where they stand on that project, and that could save the mods a lot of time in the long run in the way of not having to answer repetitive questions or to keep looking things up. And it's not like it's a big chore. Plus nowhere in his posting did he say "This is something I'm going to do." He said "that we put up a project roster." We. As a community. And I, for one, would love to see it.

Really? Has he specifically posted this somewhere? Because if so, I have not seen such a posting. What I do see on his site is, in the Legal Disclaimers section,
quote:

Restrictions:
Reproduction and use of any exclusive material (Graphics, HTML, XHTML, and text) found on this website for public use in whole or in part without express written permission by Star Wars ® Deckplans Alliance founder Frank V Bonura is expressly prohibited.

Graphics, in whole or in part... This makes me reluctant to use the graphics from Frank's ships, especially in a publicly available parts gallery.

Because not everyone wants to spend hours digging through the forums looking for things.

Edit: Heh... Looks like Uncle Servo and I were thinking a lot alike on that one, and that he definately types faster than I do.

Re: Project Roster

Slay,

It is not 'bash slay day' as you put it.

The fact is that you appear to be bringing up points that are not related to this thread. that may be partly my fault in the second post of this thread indicating the other sections which we had already planned to impliment.

Moreover, this thread is about the organization of the projects which are currently being worked on and the threads where they can be found and the artist most chiefly responsible for it's development.

Rather than digging through the hundreds of topics about ships and reference material to find that one elusive ship that people want to see the design history for, they will have a direct list and direct link. This is not that much work. We just have to compile the list and write the code. If dedicated, I could do it in a few hours, it really is no biggie.

Please try to stay focussed to the topic at hand.

thanks and kind regards,
Lucas

Re: Project Roster

I do like elements of that format as well AT.

My typing speed has been clocked at two fistfulls of milk through a straw with some grapefruit and a...what was I talking about?

Anyway, I think that the 'due to be resumed' part should not be used.

People tend not to indicate that they have been on hiatus unless directly prompted, so I was thinking that if a project goes stale for say 30 days, it becomes open for another artist to begin contributing to it. Allcontributing artists would therefore get a credit on the artwork, And it is easier to track that way, if we put timeframes in that regard...not as a deadline, but more of a suggestion. bearing in mind that these drawings are for all of the community and that they are designed by members of that community.

I think I have waxed crazy and poetic enough on it...what do you guys think?

regards,
Lucas
