Star Wars Design Alliance IRC-Chat

I want to suggest an irc chatroom for the forum. It could improve intracommunity relations, we could get to knoe each other better and it could speed up some development progresses.

If there is interest, I would set up a permanent chatroom on a friends server for free as well as an irc-webclient for those without mIrc or ircle.

Re: Deckplan Alliance IRC-Chat

that's a pretty good idea, however, I believe that Runboards has a chat client built into this system, if you scroll down to the bottom of this page, it is on the left

Powered by AkBBS 0.9.4 - Link to us - Blogs - Hall of Honour - Chat
Click here to get your own free message board
-------------------
However, It appears to be a java applet, and they are not the best, so we can play around with the mirc chat suggestion if you like. Either way, it's a good idea that I definitely support.

Lucas

Server: irc.hrun.net
Port: 6667

Join the channel by entering /join #SWDA into the clients typing field.

I will set up a webclient for those without mirc later.

If you have problems with using the server name as adress, use the IP instead of irc.hrun.net: 81.169.182.137

no, it's just, for one, I can't understand how to access this irc thing you made. do I need to download something? is there a link?

could you please clarify the instructions?

If there is a simple way, then I can put a link in the header.

regards,
Lucas

Re: Deckplan Alliance IRC-Chat

Well, effective use of irc-chat needs an irc-client. On windows this is mostly
mirc. On mac osx it is ircle.

Many webchats are irc-chats in reality, but they use java applets or cgi-scripts to make the chat accessible via webbrowser. Mozilla has an integrated irc-client that is called ChatZilla.

If you want to access the chat with your webbrowser and without installing an irc-client, I will set up a cgi-script, that allows acces via webbrowser and is preset to direct to the chat.

Until then you can use our standard cgi client, which is not directly linked to the channel I set up for the Deckplan Alliance.

http://webirc.hrun.net/cgi-bin/irc.cgi?adv=1

Nickname: Enter your nickname.
Realname: Enter your realname (optional)
Server: Leave as it is
Port: Leave as it is
Channel: #EU-Laberecke -change to-> #SWDA
Password: Leave empty
Format: Choose as you like. I prefer dark.
Character Set: Leave as it is.

Then press login.

I'm on that server anyway, so I'll put the channel in my autojoin list.

Lucas is now registered as Moderator in the #DeckplanAlliance channel. Just that you know and before anyone asks why he will be shown with different color or other indicators.
