Tankers in Star Wars
One thing that I have noticed in all the games and art is that there is a massive prevalence in Cargo ships, fighters, speeders, walkers and freighters, but I do not recall seeing a single tanker ship, like the fuel trucks that we see filling up gas stations and the like.
Are there any instances of ships with large tanker containers rather than the boxy haulers that we see in the movies and games?

Re: Tankers in Star Wars
yes, the container train Black Ice a vessel 7800 meters long, able to haul 990,000,000 tons of starship fuel, found in the adventure Black Ice.
theres mention in the imperial sourcebook of the Loronar FSCV Field secured container vessel which I believe is the name of the class Black Ice belongs to as it fits the description perfectly.
both descriptions have an engine pod at either end wit h a chain of force field bubble containers holding cargo.
looks like this:
black ice render
more info and pics from adventure:
black ice wookiepedia
That work, or are you looking for something bigger?
I THINK there is another fuel vessel in the game books but can't be 100% positive.

Re: Tankers in Star Wars
Probably the bulk freighter design currently in WIP can also haul tanks in place of it's cargo containers, and there is also the barges as seen in X-wing: Alliance, some of the sections in them were tanks.

Re: Tankers in Star Wars
I remember the Black Ice from the SWMA (Star Wars Modelling Alliance). I was thinking of a smaller tanker ship though - 7800 m is just way too big - that could supply a planet!
50stone - that is a really good idea!
I was just wondering if there were any other sources for them within the stories consideringthe variety of the freighters and ships that are out there.

Re: Tankers in Star Wars
The ships featured in Rogue Squadron: The Bacta War were tanker ships, yes they hauled bacta rather than fuel but they're both liquids and all.
Not that I've seen any pictures of them.
The three ships were called Xucphra Alazhi, Xucphra Meander and Xucphra Rose.

Re: Tankers in Star Wars
In another X-Wing book, Iron Fist, the Wraiths capture an elderly fuel tanker and use it to try to blow up an air-base.
As for the bulk freighter, one of my ideas was to have fuel tank modules that can replace the cargo pods.

theres always the KDY B-12 transport.
Its primarily a bacta hauler that holds 600,000 metric tons and has 16 cargo modules that can be dropped off.
drop off full containers and pick up empties for refilling.
info and pics:
B-12 transport
would be perfect for fuel hauling.
but at 238 meters its probably still bigger than what you wanted..
The barge driver BD-27 transport with its modular transport system would also be a good fuel transport, its only 110meters and carries 75,000 tons.
Couldn't really see a small transport doing the job though, just don't see it hauling enough to make it profitable.
Sure could see one as a mid flight refueler for fighters and such but not to resupply a fuel depot.

Yeah, it appears to be a bit big for the treatment...at 20 pixels per metre it would be 4760 pixels long....way too big, although it does look as though the front and rear pods can be displayed individually. That would cut down on the actual size....but then I would prefer a full ortho...probably not feasible at this stage.

Is that the transport from the X wing games that klick is working on? that is definitely feasible, especially from a scale perspective.

I agree. I was definitely thinking of something like a KC 135(?), the military air refueling plane that is based on the DC 10 airframe.

nope, Its from an adventure journal for the weg starwars game.
its only a forward control/crew area pod with an access control conduit connecting the rear engineering pod.
it only holds one cargo module.
there is no real picture for it and it only made an appearence in that one adventure journal(has stats).
though the story has a picture of what is supposedly another barge driver but the artist got lazy and just drew an action transport into the picture.

Re: Tankers in Star Wars
ah okay.
By the way, I don't think it's the artist that got lazy, but the editor that did not cross check the image with the stats.
