So is there an exterior view on this Beauty? or are you just going to keep teasing us with partial interiors emoticon

Re: Czerka Yacht WIP

Thanks. I'm happy about every kind of feedback, but positive feedback is the best, of course. emoticon

How I work on this ship:

The ship was modeled in 3d and I have a detailed mesh of it. It is used in my rpg campaign, but originally I didn't intend to draw a deckplan. However, as the question arose, I decided to do so.

Now the thing is, that I am working on this from a completely different point of view, than most people might expect. I have an exterior view and I have some shematics with a rough deck layout, but I have no intention of forcing the outer appearance onto the interior. Nor do I take the size of the whole ship for an unchangeable factor. I know in my head how the ship is supposed to look from INSIDE, because that is where the characters interact with each other and with the ship. So this dictates the way the ship has to look. If interior design leads to the hull becomming longer, I will adjust the exterior view of the ship until it fits.

For example, I just completely scrapped the original concept of the bridge, because it may have looked good from outside, but it didn't look good from inside.

This way of working is not very scientifical, but aestetic design rarely is and you'd probably be surprised how unimportant the real size is in certain areas of 3d modelling, when it does not come to exact replication of physical objects.

The interior part I have done so far is just to mention it not the stern! The big lounge is the front of the ship. The bridge is below it. Since it is a luxury ship, I wanted the best possible view and the most and largest windows for the passengers, not for the pilot, as long as it still flies.

So, if I model a physical object to render a TV commercial for example, then I work precise to the tenth of a millimeter, but in other cases the size of an object can easily vary a hundred percent during design. Scaling the interior to fit the exterior is basically completely the same. If the interior is the focus, it is more important to build that first and adjust the exterior afterwards. That is how most parts of the Serenity from Firefly were built and as far as I was told the very reason why the bridge became such a big room.

Thus, external views will immediately follow, as soon as I got the interior straight, so that I can resize the exterior details and reposition the windows.

Understandable Design Concept emoticon

Well i just assumed that the left part was the Stern from the look of it, now i imagine the End result to be somewhat like the Cars/Planes in the 30s.

No problem. I'll upload a picture tomorrow. I am at my significant others right now and the only 3d footage of that ship on her Mac Mini is an older QTVR 3d file of almost 80mb size and with very bad single picture resolution.
