Re: Rapid deployment base
A suggestion: you could make 2 storey modules that would allow you to make multi-storey bases.

Re: Rapid deployment base
Witzig has suggested this when he modified the dropship to transport such modules. In fact it could even ferry three story modules and the modules don't even have to be deployed vertically. A three story high module could actually contain building parts to construct even bigger modules up to 4 containers wide, simply by breaking them up and packing the roof and the floor vertically.
I encourage everyone to give the container base a try. It is a great thing to train your abilities with a simple setup, a set frame and much creative freedom. I think this was suggested by Witzig in the Ghtroc 440 thread and it is in fact the main reason why I put the base here instead of scrapping it. Have fun everyone. The best modules will be labeled by me, adjusted and put into a collection that will end up in a special gallery I will host. Let your creatice juices flow.

Re: Rapid deployment base
I noticed a few things.
1. the smaller door is a snug fit for someone to walk through.
2. the big doors are one part in the exterior view, but in the interior view, they are 2 parts.
3. I placed Void's "Turret pod" in the side fiew & it does not fit.
Let me know if I am wrong.

Re: Rapid deployment base
Well i guess i messed that one up, good find, i'll correct that .
And the Turret is thought to either be disassembled, or the Gun rotated in like this:
And yes its intended that the Rear Airlock is not attached to the Engine Room, this is only otional for some Containers.

Re: Rapid deployment base
Nice work, this looks pretty cool. Ever since Aliens, I have always had a soft spot for drop ships.
I have an observation however...maybe a minor detail.
If the ship does not have a base component attached, for example, when it is leaving the Landing Zone, how does anyone reach the engine compartment if there is a problem? Droid perhaps?

Re: Rapid deployment base
Lets hope there is no problem, but seriously, it is not such an issue. A jet fighter, or Apache pilot has no chance of repairing his craft during flight, too. An Astromechdroid seems like a good thing if you are very cautious, but it will not be necessary.
The turret is rotated for transport, yes. Of course it is. Pointed to the right is only default after deployment, in order to enter the controls.
The frontal doors of the containers are not very wide, yes. In fact we should make all the containers slightly longer and make the doors bigger. 8 pixels additional length and 8 pixels additional width would be better. Thats 4 pixels more for the front door, 4 for the back door, 4 for the internal doors and more corridor room.
Volunteers? It's a great exercise.

Re: Rapid deployment base
Here’s a communications container. I got the dish from the Nova 3-Z. It should work fine as long as it doesn’t rain. After seeing the dropship Witzig made, I guess the dish doesn’t have to retract. I took the side doors off.

Leave a mouse droid with the proper repair skill module or another small droid in there.

Re: Rapid deployment base
Hehe... I LOVE the MSE-6 Mouse Droids. Completely underestimated little buggers and they reming me so lovingly much of the Farscape DRDs. I think our rpg campaign ship has about hundred of them scurrying through the service ducts and crawlspaces.
