"Use a gif converter that is able to use custom color tables"
Love to, any recommendations. Or if possible could I send the original BMP's someplace, better.

Yup and Yup.

There are kids here? Where? emoticon

You can also upload your BMP to a free hosting service (rapidshare,...) and send me the link, join our IRC chat and send me the files via DCC connection, or mail them to me, if the other options didn't work. I will gladly convert the files into GIF format for you.

Of course, I'd prefer everyone to do that for himself, but if one of you needs help with those things, I have no qualms about helping.

Re: Rapid deployment base

Hey guys, I know this is really late in the process but I found this in a magazine this morning (while waiting for an interview) and thought it might be useful:

The Multipurpose Troop Transport Carrier System

It's something the US Military has tested & evaluated (don't know if they're actually using it or not). The brochure has specs and photos.

Tee Hee, I've already been doing that.

Must say I like that concept though.

No, because Frank would sue me, look at the Novoil/Ghtroc line, same concept.
Besides we've been building larger water-born ships that way sense the 40's.

Wow thats a sweet system, can be used as either transport, or as a fixed position.

Keen perception. Thats exactly what it was meant to be for since the beginning. emoticon

Besides: Does someone volunteer to become head of this project? I already said I don't want to do it.

Duties of the project supervisor would be to collect all individual parts and pieces that people in this thread come up with, judge the quality and compile all parts that are up to the standard on regular intervals, so we can all follow the progress and get a feeling on what has been done so far. Knowledge of GIF handling and color management are mandatory. Otherwise this will suffer too much color deviation.

If this should develop well, I will showcase it in its own webgallery, to make compilation, access and listing stats as comfortable as possible. Everyone who contributes something that ends up in the final version will be credited for his work, of course.

Applications via private message or mail, please.

Re: Rapid deployment base

I had to head out for lunch before I could finish the post (how can I resist a lunch date with the wife?), but I found something else in that magazine that also might have a touch of relevance here:

Prototype Shipping Container Housing Article

Some students at my old alma mater figured out a way to turn surplus 8'W x40'L x9'H shipping containers into housing for displaced hurricane victims. Unfortunatly there aren't any pictures but the description sounded surprisingly good all things considered (aside from the part where it doesn't have a private bathroom).

EDIT: I tried comping something in these dimensions in 3D Home Architect... and you wanna talk about cramped... emoticon

Re: Rapid deployment base

I would take it on but every time I convert to gif I get distortion, even when I select web colors.

So here is a revised comm pod with a new dish in png
