My design
I came across your site while looking for a deckplan for a SWG d20 game I am currently playing.
I was so impressed that I decided to make my own plan.
It isnt that good and I know its not to your scales, but my only design program I have is publisher 2003.
Because of this everything is in 2d but i have tried to do front and side views as well.
Anyway.
My original idea was for a flat spheroid design like a mint.
But going through my old games I came across KOTOR and looked at the ebon hawk and thought I would yoick the concept and combine it.
I found this image of the ebon hawk with google, but its also on your forum somewhere. if you look at that it should clear up any confusion my bad design skills and crappy art cause.
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/marc.savage/snow/EbonHawk.gif
If you look at the images i posted below, "deck0" shows my side view's front and back.
The thing that looks like a club is another side view but closer than the center. The pontoon bit you can see on the front/back views.
So my basic shape was a flat spheroid shape 38m in diameter 6m thick. I decide to make the front half a flat cylinder shape 38m wide 6m high, while keeping the back the mint shape.
The basic internal structure concept was for 2 large cargo bays, 10m x 20m x 4m (WxDxH) with a central living hull and a pontoon like hull for the starboard and port.
The engine was to go at the back like the ebon hawk
I wanted 2 large cargo doors at the front for off loading of cargo or troops or vehicles
I decided to make the center hull area 2 decks high with a 3rd deck sticking out of the top, and match this with the cargo bays either side (only 2 decks high). I wanted the port and starboard pontoons to be centered between decks 1 & 2 height wise.
The engine area and life support area at the back are meant to be higher, at least for part of their space..
I have done the following images
On them all ive put a scale (small is 1m, lareg is 5m)
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/marc.savage/snow/deck0.jpg
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/marc.savage/snow/deck1.jpg
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/marc.savage/snow/deck2.jpg
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/marc.savage/snow/deck3.jpg
I have 3 other deck images "deck1" being the lowest, "deck3" the top deck.
Ive used colour coding to make up for my lack of artistic ability with the following key.
I have ried to use transparancy and layers to show what is in front of what.
red = engine
dark purple = hull & walls
pale orange = cargo area
orange = gun turrets (top & bottom like the MF)
dark green = landing gear
dotted line = external hull line
pale grey = external hull libe
blue/grey = pontoons
(like on the ebon hawk.
yellow = turbo lift.
light green = life support.
deck 1.
starting from left to right.
Engine (red) area with life support on eitherside (light green)
Surrounding the cargo bay are the 4 landing legs (dark green)
The little rooms at the front (right side) of the pontoons are teh torpedo/missile rooms
Moving right from the engine into the center hull their is the turbo lift, and the access to the lower turret.
moving right from here is a sort of storage room still thinking about this bit.
next is an open area between the 2 cargo bays and a largo airlock with lockers for suits etc.
The cargo bays have large dorrs that rotate from their closed position 22.5' off vertical to the ground for loading / unloading.
Deck 2.
I left a ghost image so you can see where things are in relation to each other.
the 2nd level os the cargo bays and the 2nd level of the central hull
from left to right
turbo lift (yellow)
combined common area / galley / mess hall
2 crew quarters.
I did originally so bunks / single beds but I cant stand small beds so.....
either side of the bed is storage / cuboards. I did have litle nobbly bits rather thans crosses through them but lost them in an edit and forgot to put them back
the wc is obvious I think and teh circle is a shower / sonic shower / clean people thing
The last room is the tractor beam room located above the airlock to help with loading etc.
deck 3.
from left to right again.
The capsule shaped thing with the arrow is an escape pod. inspired by the z class escape pod I saw on this site.
turbo lift (yellow)
access toupper turret (orange)
medical bay and the sqyare thing withthick walls is a 2nd airlock.
4 crew quarters (same as below)
and the bridge area with seating for all party members, pilot, co-pilot, sensors, shields, commanders, gunnery 1 & 2
Now game stats...
I only have d20 rules so you will have to convert them to your more normal d6 rules
Daevora Snow, Modified small transport.

Re: My design
Welcome to the SWDA Kirstar!
A very solid start to an interesting concept. I like the ideas.
if you would like to have additional drawing programs, such as the programs that we use, there is a list of freeware drawing programs, complete with links in our drawing technique section.
I would recomend trying your hand at designing with those.
Again nice work!
best regards,
Lucas

Re: My design
Welcome aboard Kirstar.
That's a great start. Do you have MS Paint?
Most of us beginners use that.

Re: My design
thanks for the welcome.
ill give good ol' paint a go.
and try a couple of the others
I have been looking but cant find a FAQ on scales and stuff.
I keep seeing blue scale / red scale yellow scale being talked about but dont have any idea what they refer to.
Converting my thingy above wont be too hard as i used grid settings and everything is either in 1m lumps or for walls etc in 25cm lumps.
During my trawls I did come across a website assocaited with you guys that had lots of images including animage with scales on, but I forgot where it is
Also do you guys have rules or guidelines about component sizes, like life support units per man day , ie 1 cu meter = 100 man days etc

Re: My design
The size of stuff is determined by taking availlable visual sources and extrapolating relations and similarities. The rest is totally up to the artist.
However, it gets ridiculous, when people put a week life support, a light turbolaser and a hyperdrive into a ship the size of a small landspeeder.

Re: My design
Ok some quick and dirty conversion
(was posting before I noticed the replies)
1 pixel = 10cm
EDIT: Removed IMG tags as updated the image and I dont want to lag the thread
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/marc.savage/snow/deck1_1px%2010cm.bmp
Correct me if I am wrong but the metric scale (the green one) is 1m = 20 pixels ?

Okay, no correction. 1m=20px is correct.

Re: My design
a couple more quick questions please.
I decided to have 2 types of internal bulk heads.
thick (50cm) in this case and thing (now 5cm in pixel mode)
The idea behind teh thick walls was to protect vital areas such as engineering and life support and to have all external hull bulkheads this thick armoured skill.
So on to the questions,
What do you consider to be a normal internal hull thickness, @ 1 px = 5cm thats the thinest I can do. but is it too thin ?
And for my armoured hull / walls what is a reasonable thickness is 50cm / 10 px to thick ?
I have also converted my deck 1 to that green scale and included the scale (thank you kenposan)
It cleared up alot of conversion artifacts and I can generate the image below without any editing at all.
So is this image a better one ?
What would you suggest to make it more inline with what you guys post (other than adding exact components and stuff which ill do later.
EDIT:
Oh yeah, I decide on the large size of the cargo bay because of 2 reasons.
I wanted space to store a couple of starfighters
And I was reading about standard 20ft containers (used for container ships)
A nominal amount per container (9'6" x 9'6" x 20') was 14 tonnes so.....
I can fit 18 containers in so decided on 80% yield which happends to be the max cargo size for a small ship based on d20 constructions rules.
Do you think that the space / weight is reasonable ?
