Re: My design

Hull thickness is up to you. Standard is 3-4 pixels for exterior hull and three for interior. You may want to go a bit thicker for armor but you don't need to. Armor isn't necessarily about thickness but about material used.

What can you do? Use the new offical palette that Void recently posted and add the internals. It really does make a huge difference.

Re: My design

Ok, is this more like it. ?

I am using that palette you suggested.

I have my base shape a a quick ion thruster set I made.

full bitmap @
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/marc.savage/snow/test.bmp

here is a smaller jpg version

I use MS photoeditor for lossless conversion to jpg, otherwise teh image would be a little large emoticon

EDIT: Added some more tech stuff. Is this looking ok so far ?

Re: My design

It's a good step forward to using our method.

A couple of things stand out.

While I really like the shading on your engines, we tend to use only binary shading for internal components. It allows for easy modification by others and you can show more detail.

Your hull is just interior color, you didn't outline them in black.

You also have anti-aliasing going on. That may be a result of the jpg conversion, I don't know.

The palette also seems off but that may be a result of jpg conversion. As a side, SWDA prefers gif or png. You can convert to png with no problems using Paint.

Here is a quick/dirty revision. I redid the palette and changed some walls so you can see the difference:

So the question you have to ask yourself is this: How in line with the SWDA do you want your deckplans to be?

Re: My design

Thanks much appreciated.

Could you check teh palette on the test.bmp

I used teh HCL numbers from that palette but if I have them wrong emoticon

The big thick outer hull is/was goin to have additional tech equipment in there as its the outer curve of the original mint shape with too small a height for people to walk in.

My thick inner walls looking at your conversion are too thick, I did peg them at 35cm but yours looks better by far.

I want your advice on coridors / passageways.

I did a little calculation based on a raw height of 2.5m
Assuming a MF style cylinder cross section of the passage and a 10cm padding I get a height of 2.1m and a walk way width of 1.3m
This is based on a base corridor width of 2.5m

anyway, making my base passageways 2.5m willeat up alot of room, should I just go for square passages ways ?

Re: My design

well, i have tried again to get the HSL info from the palette image but it doesn seem to work,

Im am so confused it silly

I even made a list of all the HSL numbers, but when I look at other peoples images they are different.

If I copy from their image to a bitmap the HSL numbers change

Can't help you with the HSL numbers, I think Void was going to post them at some point. I just import the palette (copy/paste) into the deckplan file and use the eyedropper to select.

As to corridors, that is really up to you. Some ships have wide ones (the CR-90, death star) and others have narrow ones (MF). I use a standard in my ships of about 2.5-3 ft (yes, I tend to use the old Imperial blue scale), based on the hallway in my house. I then adjust it up depending on function. Yours are 6 ft wide. Unless you plan to move freight through there; probably too wide.

As to shape, your design looks like it lends itself more to standard square corridors than rounded ones, but I see most ships like this. The MF is an oddity to me.

I did a little tinkering. I added a 6x6 crate and a standard figure to help you conceptualize size. I also put the palette in the image to make some color changes.

My first recommendation would be to do the exterior hull. One pixel black, 1-2 pixels of the exterior hull color, one pixel black. Once that is done, we can talk about green stuff (engines, [power core, repulsor lift generators, sensors, etc).

Hope this helps.

I thought it looked familiar.

kirstar, you may want to search out that thread, there may be some reference material useful to you.
