Oh my! I'm shocked! Paul, you are the best sketch artist I have seen in a long time.

The things I have seen you do in MSPAint have boggled my mind.

I'm amazed at your compliment. thank you very much! emoticon
To be honest, there's no great trick to doing this, specifically the shading is just tedious....but you can't argue with the results.

Basically, I take a circle, divide into quarters and then divide that quarter into 5 parts to coincide with half the facing curve. In this case, I did that for every curved surface on this image. Due to the fact that the pod is a modified cylinder, this is how the shading works...quite simple but tedious....takes hours.

I have no life,
Lucas

I'm speaking about all the projects you've done so far. I'd lose my patience doing all sides.

I do believe that the lack of detailing and information about Star Wars vehicles, ship, etc. from the actual movies is due to the fact that all the documentaries and stuff I have seen about them all emphasises GL being so pushed for time and on an extremely tight budget. HOWEVER, I agree that after 25 years, and who knows how much $$$$ later, not to mention the movie's popularity even to this day, you would think they would have have gone back and put more time and effort into the source materials. Most of the info.

Small update,

the angled rotary hinge outlines are nearly finished, then it will be on to the real meat of this project. emoticon

There will be two versions made. Legs closed (as now) and extended. IF I am really motivated, I may even do an animation, of the legs extending and then landing and the side hatch blowing off...no promises at this stage in development though, but it would be pretty damned cool. emoticon

Without further ado, here it is;

comments & criticisms are always welcome.

Lucas

Started with the detailing, strut # 1 is now in progress, the tough part will be the angles...as always.

More progress to come.

some thoughts regarding how the landing gear works.

They have to extend outwards slightly to clear the hull, the smaller circular component within the central rotating plate rotates counterclockwise as it is a screw assembly, and this extends the strut outwards, the outer plate then rotates to extend the strut 180 degrees.

Those elipsis have to be a pain in the ass to align. Its things like that, that have shied me away from such undertakings.

Well, you are right Paul, generally the elipses are a pain in the ass, but I think that the results speak for themselves.

speaking of results, she now has main engines!

The symetry of four engines and three gear really looks odd at first.

Nice.
