Re: Bluescale Corellian Corvette WIP
Hi Technocc, welcome to the board!
sorry for editing your post but as I mentioned the image is just too huge so I changed it to a link, I did that on mine as well.
I have seen your work before!
Frank pointed it out to me in august last year and I still have the original image on my hard drive, I notice that you changed quite a lot of it.
Although it does look good so far, there are a few things that I feel should be pointed out, but before I do, I will show my version which I made in late May last year and I submitted it to Frank for his review in an attempt to become a member of the Deckplans crew.
His reaction to my attempt was good, but he game invaluable advice which is that although Mike Marincic's drawing of the Corvette is excellent, there are errors all over it. This is due to the woefully inadequate source material he had to work with and therefor had to 'best guess' many of the details. I have vast amounts of images of the studio models (yes there is more than one) and there are many issues that had to be corrected which are not immediately apparent on cursory inspection. Frank's main advice was to start with the exterior and correct those issues prior to tackling the interior. I was also using Robert Brown's interior extrapolation for the deckplan design, plus my own ideas to make the corridors make sense, as well as the top and bottom decks.
test01_from May 2004
As you can see, I actually used Mike Marincic's design for the escape pod area and then tried to make it follow with Robert Brown's frame by frame extrapolation of the Corvette.
When I studied the opening sequence showing the interior of the Corvette, I noticed something. Robert Brown had one central pentagonal room, and made it quite large.
However, this pentagonal room or foyer is directly next to the escape pod area, which we know to be at the furthest sides of that deck. The only possible solution is that there are in fact two pentagonal foyers on either side of that deck, and possibly on the upper deck as well.
I have not started interior design of the Corvette yet and will not until the outer design is completed.
Although you have clearly done a lot of work on your drawing, Richard, the bridge doesn't look like it fits with images of the bridge forward section (viewport).
I like the droid bay idea (Frank hates it) and I will put it in my deckplan, as a droid maintenance bay makes sense to me, but I would put it closer to the engineering section (possibly where r2 and 3po were coming from when the ship came under attack and r2 was likely summoned by leia, and 3po tagged along).
Anyway, you have some good potential there, but I think that the layout needs to be examined more closely. Think about ergonomics, the fastest way to reach areas, what do people need to survive, how far away from the bridge should a recreational area be? Pretty far in my opinion, the rec area should be right next to crew quarters) And on this ship there are likely two or more. one for the crew and one for the passengers, as the T4 is a ship fit for royalty.
kind regards,
Lucas

wow
Hello all
I must say this forum is a great addition to the website, that I've been visiting for over a year now.
I love this ship (maybe seeing it on the movie screen at 6 years old has a little bit to do with that).
I have two question though is this Leia's ship or is this production line? Just wondering. I was also wondering what is the crew complement, the rpg material seems a little short on crew.
Thanks for the ships

Re: wow
I would like it to be Leia's ship. As that is what I have been working on, however it is up to Frank and Lucas P as to which ship.

Re: Bluescale Corellian Corvette WIP
Hi Robad,
Welcome to the forums!
thank you for the compliments. At this stage, the Corvette is a template for all variants of this production line, of which the Tantive 4 is a custom modification.
As far as crew compliment is concerned, I am really not sure at all. For now, I'm just drawing the exterior.
AT this particular moment, I'm concentrating on the Escape pod in Yellowscale.
regards,
Lucas

Re: Bluescale Corellian Corvette WIP
just letting you no luc that my CR-90 that i was going to post (the one reffered to in rules of deckplan creation) was faded. aparrently bitmap "fades" the image if it is to large and i had saved my exterior and interior views on it. I have looked everywhere but i can't find my backup files. sorry to dissapoint but the entire ship was almost white. I guess we just have to learn these things the hard way

perhaps I did not read this correctly on the first pass through...but I have never heard of this problem. when you say too large...how large are we talking here? what do you mean it faded? How does a digital image get faded, it is not affected by the bleaching qualities of paper. I am confused. please elaborate.
thanks.

Re: Bluescale Corellian Corvette WIP
I'd guess he's talking about reducing colour depth automaticly to reduce file size - a bitmap is uncompressed, so some image software will do that so as not to create 70mb files! You can turn it off.
This deckplan is much more advanced than I was expecting! I'm looking forward to it, but I had assumed that it ended up like the baudo - just too hard. Good to see some people aren't intimidated by the size of the ship or the weight of film cannon!

Re: Bluescale Corellian Corvette WIP
thank you doormat for your encouragement.
as for the image fading, my experience with image conversion has never resulted in image fading, but rather in colour 'dirtying', where a main colour all of a sudden is approximated and muddied. There are ways around it, but I have never experienced wash out of the image.
With all due respect, I smell an excuse that cannot be corroborated.
regards,
Lucas

Hey there's nothing wrong whatsoever with wanting to see Leia's version. I hope to someday see it too, as I really like the cutaway illustration by Jenssen & Chasemore but it doesn't show everything.
The thing to keep in mind though is that like with just about all CEC designs, the CR-90 is known for its versatility... and the Tantive IV has been modified for its role as a diplomatic transport (is there a single Corellian ship in the entire EU that HASN'T been modified?).
The most logical course of action here would be to present the CR-90 in a 'stock base model' and then present variant builds (like how you see the Ghtroc 720 and the Accuser variant on the SWDA website).
Something tells me though, once we see the stock version of the CR-90 (BTW, awesome job so far Lucas!) the Tantive IV won't be far behind.
