posticon CEC Barloz-class Medium Freighter

Just wanted to say that I am sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for this one and just wanted to know if it has been shelved for now or if work is still proceeding?

I would offer to assist but alas my artistic skills do not flow in this direction.

Re: Barloz

I would like to second the motion.

My skills lie more towards the literary than the artistic, though so I won't be much help. W

hen I inquired on the freighter back in June or January, I was told late '05. I just started thinking that the Ghtroc ships took precedence.

The Barloz is in stasis for now. Construction will resume in 2006, after the Action 6 is finished.

OK this thread is going to get very hot, so leave now if you can't take it!!! I mean it!!!

You have no idea how many times I have heard this. Too many times.

When I started drawing in 1997, it was my first time working with MS Paint. It was all I had, and I would soon discover it would be my most powerful tool. When I started, I had no idea what I was doing. All I knew is somebody had to do it, and that somebody was me. Guess what? If I didn't try or made excuses, we would not be here right now would we?

Sathen if you say you have no artistic ability, or that your skills don't flow in this direction, you will NEVER learn to draw. I find this attitude not only lazy but completely unhelpful.

The entire purpose of this Forum it to teach people how to draw STAR WARS Ships, and deckplans. This is not a radio station for song requests. If you want the Barloz done any faster, you need to learn how to draw and contribute to this body of artists positively. We have a section called "Ask the Experts". I plan to share my 8 years of experience there with everyone. I suggest just doodling and playing around with existing deckplans on MS Paint. Its how I got started. Its how you can practice and develop your ability. We need more people pulling the cart, than people asking us to pull faster.

Think about it.

Actually I have taken several art courses and even some drafting. Alas my skills in this area, much to my dismay, never developed. Of course I would be happy to assist in research and other areas but truthfully I am not any good at drawing.

Just like to also mention that I am not going to throw a fit I just was wanting to know the status is all.

Dude, this isn't like pencil and paper drawing we're talking about here. It is a computer program and is therefore much simpler(in my opinion). No one says you have to jump in and start from scatch, having never done any deckplans yourself. Try modifing an existing design...that's how I started. If you have seen my Dragon Moth, you will see that there is almost no limit you can come up with. You just need a little bit of imagination and a little more patience. emoticon If you make a mistake, "undo" it(edit option) and press on. If you are totaly disgusted with what you come up with, either delete it or just don't save it. Take a break and come back to it later. Learning to cut, paste, and rotate or flip a pasted section of a picture helps a lot too...no worries man. Most important of all though is DO NOT develop the "I can't do it" attitude. You do that and your shooting yourself in the foot before you even begin.

YEAH!!!!

um, I mean...well, I only started drawing with MSPaint about a year ago, and that was because I felt that there were a lot of ships missing from the SWDA site....namely fighters, so I gave it a shot....by starting a deckplan of the Corvette!! emoticon. I have a modest art and drafting background myself, I am just really patient (mostly) and have an exacting personality.

That's why I hate it when people tell me I'm wrong....if you do, you better be prepared to back it up. emoticon

Seriously though, can we please stop with the defeatism? Just give it a shot, try it out. Don't be intimidated by Franbk or me or any of the other exceptionally talented artists...it just takes practice, time and a willingness to do it.

regards,
Lucas

And when Frank gets blustery SMILE and know he is "mostly harmless"... emoticon

This is a gradual process that anyone can learn. Remember that this isn't rocket science or even Rembrant imitation class... It is cut and past scratch building of deckplans and it is usually done after midnight...

Relax and enjoy the ride. Start cutting and pasting things into and out of your favorite ship posted on the site. That is where I started. I now have a HDD full of ships that I am going to have in this section...

Re: Barloz

Well Sathen your wish looks like it will be granted. The Barloz is still in the lead on the forum poll, and if it still is on the first of December, I will be finishing her next.

Sitting on the edge of my seat here. I will be honest in saying that if it lost out to the 1300 I would not be that dissappointed. Used to get teased by the fact that I used something even older then the 1300 but that was part of the charm to me.

I can promise that once it is done I will be working on modding it out and of course will offer my work up on this site for all to enjoy and tear apart to the hearts desire.
