SFS Skipray Blastboat
Here is a minor update with bunks and head in place. I have to thank Void for the use of his utillities. I already have the missle rack picked out for the lower deck, but that will be a long time from now.
And some stats:
Skipray Blastboat GAT-12h
The GAT-12h Skipray Blastboat like others in the GAT series is hyperdrive capable which allows it to operate independently from larger base vessels. This model in the GAT series was introduced shortly before the debacle at the Battle of Yavin. Its ventral and dorsal stabilizer wings assist the craft's atmospheric flight. When the Skipray switches its wings from landing configuration (parallel to the ground) to flight configuration (perpendicular to the ground), its wings rotate counter-clockwise. Skipray Blastboats are extraordinarily durable for craft their size. Its hull plating is so heavy that most starfighter lasers would have trouble penetrating it, thus making the Skipray impervious to all but the most powerful starfighter armaments. While the Skipray is larger and more powerful than a starfighter, it is small enough to be carried onboard a capital ship. Its incredible weapons array includes capital scale ion cannons which give this assault gunship a reasonable prospect of disabling larger combat vessels.
When deploying Skiprays, Imperial commanders know that they can send them into the middle of a battle and expect them to return. Skiprays' are employed for point defence, fire support for larger capital ships, system and sector patrols, escort and skirmish line duty, reconnaissance, planetary engagement and bombardment, and light combat. Occasionally, Skiprays' have been employed for courier duty. They are normally deployed in pairs so that they can cover each other. Critics of Imperial starfighter policy have suggested that the Imperial Navy phase out the effective TIE series and replace them with Skipray Blastboats, stating that they would pay dividends, especially since they already come equipped with a limited hyperdrive. However, the Imperial Navy has never really accepted the capital-starfighter hybrid and thus is unlikely to remove the TIE series from service.
Sienar Fleet Systems marketed this craft with the slogan "Ready. Willing. Able. Skipray." In its advertisement it boasted that the GAT-12h featured boosted power and reconfigured weapon systems, thus making the craft faster, tougher, and more capable. It also mentioned that the GAT-12h was ideally suited for multiple mission profiles including: system patrol, point defence, planetary defence and interdiction; adding that its hyperdrive capability enhanced its versatility. SFS began to sell these craft on the open market after the Empire decided against purchasing the GAT-12h in large quantities. The Skipray is Sienar's second most popular all-around light combat ship that sees use outside of the Imperial Navy. Imperial Customs, Sector Rangers, numerous territorial governments, corporations, mercenaries, pirates and smugglers also make use of this craft.

Re: SFS Skipray Blastboat
Given that this is a combat vessel and the complete lack of any evidence of windows in those positions, might I suggest you make the bunks windowless?

It was just a quick cut and paste. I agree the windows won't be there long.

Re: SFS Skipray Blastboat
When you say "lower deck", I assume you don't really mean deck, right? The Skipray does not have a second deck. it has space under the deck stuffed with landing gear, missile launchers, an ion cannon and so on. If it can't be entered, it's a crawlspace.

Yeah, I mean a crawlspace. But it's still a deck.

Re: SFS Skipray Blastboat
Sorry to reply in the post and not really add to this post, but...
I like how the Skipray has different manuverability die codes, one for space and one for atmosphere. This was a solid idea in terms of realism and I think it should have been applied to almost everything else in the SW galaxy.
We know that TIEs aren't as effective in atmosphere, where there odd wings serve to detract from there flight characteristics. And the "traditional" look of an XWing isn't hampered by flying through an atmosphere.
Thanks for the time.

Re: SFS Skipray Blastboat
Most interestingly, the space flight configuration of the Skipray does not really make sense. In space flight, the wings rotate up, which means that the defensive gun turret cannot fire backwards. It also offers almost no advantage. If navigational thrusters and virtual rudders are installed in these wings, it makes some more sense, because it increases the turning ability of the ship in space and provides better lift in athmospheric flight. Not by the wings themselves, of course. It's the particle shields that provide lift in athmospheric flight, but those would profit from a horizontal allignment.
However, in space there is no need for a fixed maneuverability optimization, which is why it would be much much smarter for advanded pilots, to rotate the wings depending on the situation. If you want to increase turning maneuverability, you would rotate them vertically. If you want to go up and down, you'd rotate them horizontally and you could even rotate them any degree in between to achieve incredible results. Since this requires a really experienced pilot, this would not be suitable for everyone. Perhaps the possibility is there, just few pilots really use it.

Re: SFS Skipray Blastboat
That's an interesting idea Void... after all, we see a similar approach in the B-Wing. Rotating wings are also evident in the fighters you see in the first part of Lost In Space.
Unless I'm mistaken, we've really seen a Skipray in flight (aside from Luke's escape attempt in the Thrawn trilogy). For all we know that's exactly what happens.
The more I think about this idea the more I like it. Good thinking!

Re: SFS Skipray Blastboat
That also struck me as odd to find that the wings go verticle for flight and horizontal for landing. I'm tending to think that this ship was designed by someone looking for a new quirk to catch people's eyes.
I think we should reconsider this ship as you have described, Void. Make its wings less fixed in any mode. More of a flexible platform where the wings can be manipulated, by a co-pilot imo, as the pilot flies through a battlefield. The pilot and the co-pilot would have to work in extremely close quarters as it pertains to this. They would have to be experienced and comfortable with each other.
I think that any Skipray in Imperial service should be considered to have a top notch crew, as the pilots go, and they shouldn't be taken lightly.
And I still hold to my thought that other ships should have a split die code for atmosphere and space.
