I'm looking at the Wanted by Cracken drawing.

There just isn't the room for interpretation there was with the Nella.

If you read this thread, you'd have known that I am already well aware of that. However, there is still a lot room for interpretation and interpretation is in fact necessary to get the stock ship. However, we are not in that stage yet.

the more I look at the reference image of this ship, the more I think that the sections port and starboard of the ****pit are seperate cargo containers that are detachable...

Frank's drawing shows that those are not, but the design is really suggestive of modular components....

what do you guys think?

I am not exactly sure about it. It COULD be, but the thing bothering me is the way the ****pit is fit into that design. If I was building detachable container mounts, I would try to make it possible to actually mount more than the original modules. Modules from different manufacturers. The ****pit makes that a bit hard.

The ****pit is also the thing bothering me the most, because the window arrangement is totally wacko. The version Frank did has the most terrible field of view I could possibly imagine. Not only that you'd smash your head on the glass if you break too hard... You also hardly see anything. Miserable view straight ahead, terrible view to the sides, no backwards view. The best angle is UP and who the frell needs the best view upwards anyway? I will have to seriously think about how this crap can be turned into a practical ****pit.

The Sissy-approach would be to say "Heck, it is the Miv'Rah, so that weirdo Sullustan must have built a very kinky custom ****pit", but that would be just too cheap.

However, if the frontal sideparts are detachable containers, those are probably not stock. Hard to tell.

To make the Miv'Rah work, there have to be drastic changes, even to the outside of the ship. Since its owner obviously only tries to reduce the risk during clumsy scan inspections, that would be no problem. As I said before, to me his modifications don't suggest that he actually cares much about random internal inspections.

Would it help to raise the ****pit? If you make those details on top of the cargo holds into a seperate structure tha the cargo pods clamp onto it might help make it possible for the use of more standard pods.

Don't know that it will help or not...but there you go.

I'd like to say that the chipmunk style cheek sections were detachable too, but if I were making detachable cargo modules they'd have to be symetrical front and back so that they could be attached either port or starboard otherwise you have to have a matched pair ALL the time.

In fact if you could ignore certain aspects of the book illustration you could make that work and end up with a pretty neat ship, extending the ****pit module forward to wrap over the front sort of like the Sleuth's bubble ****pit but alas.

That asymetrical pod issue is a good point, the original silhouette doesn't really show that it is asymetrical....which publication is more recent of the two "official" sources that we have?

There is room for a central 'spine' to the ship, that could even house the entry ramp and have a landing gear behind the entry ramp...or that the cargo pods themselves have additional skids or something to compensate for the additional weight.

As it stands, the asymetry that was mentioned regarding what I want to call the cargo containers, appears to be only hinted at, as three of the indicated corners are rounded, so the central spine of the ship might have an overhang...which would suggest that they are symmetrical.

This is a freighter afterall, and I think that a modular design is always best...

For a civilian ship, it is always best to be able to "trick" out one's ship, as I am sure you will agree. I am sure it would be fairly easy to have side access hatches in the sides of the "spine" to directly access the cargo containers in flight if necessary.

what do you guys think of that?

regards,
Lucas

Detachable cargo pods sounds like it would be a good idea, its also very practical too. With detachable pods, a ship can have many different containers with its clients that way the pods would be preloaded and ready for pick up once the ship arrives. The less time the ship spends loading cargo, the less money your waisting.

Also with detachable pods you can get them in many differnt sizes or configurations. If your standard pod was 20m^3 with no 'frills' you could potintally get one thats even larger but would have to have its own repulsor lifts to assist in moving the larger load. The possibilities are endless with a modular desing.

(if i said what someone else already did, sorry)

I don't think that cargo pods would be cost effective, unless there is no inside access to them (save for an emergency). Light freighters wouldn't normally have such a luxury (unless the ship costs a bunch more).

IMO - the only way to get a good compromise is to have the ****pit be either above or below the cargo module/cheek pods/whatever. Personally I would go with Below. Why? As a cargo ship, having your ****pit below will give you a greater sense of comfort while landing. Having that great overhead view will also help when looking at the cargo modules if there is a leak.
