Most buildings in Episode 1, 2 and 3 were needle shaped. Only very few looked like arcoblock pyramids.

Re: StarTower Residences
Star Wars buildings of this scale would had the advantage of repulsors to maintain stability so theres no need to build em like we do. Also with the superior metalergy the SW universe has they wouldn't have as much to worry about where loads and stresses are concerned.

Re: StarTower Residences
We can certainly change the text to make it make more sense. Allow for more floors dedicated to commercial zoning and building facilities.
The plan dedicates two lifts as "express" but that could be better defined. I wouldn't think that all four go up all floors. In fact, I would think there are more lifts than four, they just occupy the same space in the top down view of a deckplan.
So tube 1 is also tube 5 and 11. Tube one stops at the 25 floor, tube 5 runs to the 50 floor, and tube 11 is express from the 50th floor to the 200th (or something like that). Make sense?
If I do draw lower floors, do we think it is required that those floors be wider? I kind of like the straight up design myself, but if consensus is wider, I can do wider. I am considering adding a monorail station as well. The text doesn't say there is one but it doesn't say there isn't. With the volume of traffic one could expect in and out of this building, it would make sense.
And what about sub-levels? The text says speeder parking is adjacent but it makes more sense to me to have underground parking levels. Why waste surface space?

Re: StarTower Residences
I don't think a functional, independant, 300 floor design can be hammered out of a building with such thin cross-section. Even with high-speed turbolifts and multiple skylobbies, there is not enough space set aside for turbolifts to move people to the various floors.
My suggestion would be to make the building part of a larger complex, with several of these towers clustered around, and connected via sky bridges to, a larger, central tower, which would contain the bulk of the complex's turbolifts, airspeeder parking, as well as offering commercial and retail space to serve the complex's residents.
Something like this:
Scale is 1 pixel per meter
The side towers are the StarTower Residences; you can see why I think the building is too needly.
The towers on either side are based directly on the StarTower materials Kenposan has posted, the central tower is my addition. There would be two more of the smaller towers, one behind the central tower, one in front of it (cut off in this view).
[Edit]
I've added a view with the front tower included (on the right) and revised the finial on the center tower.

Re: StarTower Residences
your pic looks out of porportion..
the side towers look like they are just the side view of the middle tower.
the side towers just don't look right.

Re: StarTower Residences
The side towers are correctly proportioned to the StarTower specs and were the first thing I did for this image. The middle tower is meant to be larger, and was constructed out of parts of the side towers. The finial on top needs some tweaking, though.

Re: StarTower Residences
is that a 3 tower arrangement? or would it be a five tower setup?

Re: StarTower Residences
It's intended as a five tower arrangement (the magenta sections are where the view cuts through the bridges connecting to the front tower), but it would certainly work as a three tower arrangement.

Re: StarTower Residences
Interesting suggestion klick. Makes sense too. But what are we to do with this? We obviously aren't going to draw every tower.
My thought is to draw the following:
1) a lobby for the existing building
2) a generic maintenance floor.
3) a skylobby for the connecting floors.
4) [something about the main tower, I have no clue]
Is this going to become a community project? I can do lobby and connecting floors but would need help with floors full of "green stuff". Not my thing.
My little building is taking on a life of its own.
It is ALIVE
