Monorail

In my continual quest to create non-military, non-war related everyday items, I give you a repulsortrain. If you want a commuter version, just hack the engine and cars down.

Re: Monorail

I'd add some windows to the kitchen-waggon. Real sunlight is good for the people's mood.

Re: Monorail

The engine loks like it would tip over. is there some way to center the engines?

Otherwise good. I want to see the bubble car :P

Re: Monorail

I like where you're going on this, ken. It's off to a very good start! emoticon

I don't know if you saw this link in the Central Archive, but it's a collection of railroad car floorplans and might be of use.

One note about the engine though... the world's most-used monorail (the one at Walt Disney World in Orlando) doesn't have a dedicated engine car. Each car has its own set of engines under the floor, and they draw their power from a high-voltage wire on the rail itself. That might be something to consider as well.

Wish I'd seen that link before I started. I had a hard time finding anything myself which limited my design. I may have to seriously revisit this project at some point.

I know most monorails have engines for each car but I couldn't bring myself to not have a dedicated engine. Guess it's the sentamentalist in me.

Don't sweat it too much -- I'm re-vamping the archive as we speak to make it a bit easier to use as a reference. emoticon

You could also consider MAGLEV

It can be which ever you want. I called it repulsor because that is prevalent in Star Wars. Heck, it can even be your basic monorail with (gasp)...wheels.

Re: Monorail

I very much like the direction this is taking. good job kenposan.

I agree about the forward engine though....either it should be centered, or each car should have their own repulsor engines under the floor. the overall design is pretty solid though.

Re: Monorail

Or the locomotive has a reactor or something and produces the energy. Useful if you don't want to build real tracks. (see firefly episode 2 for an example)
