Actually, you could fix most issues of the ship with a simple trick. Make it capital scale and fit stats to that scale.

1. Make it capital, just like the Skipray and the Gamma.
2. Keep Maneuverability as it is.
3. Reduce main gun damage to 3D+2 fire linked, 3D individual.
4. Reduce heavy laser cannons to damage 2D+2 (8D+2 against starfighters) fire linked, 2D (8D against starfighters) individual.
4. Reduce ion cannon to damage 2D+2 (8D+2 against starfighters) fire linked, 2D (8D against starfighters) individual.
5. Reduce Hull and Shields by 3D to Hull 2D+2 (8D+2 against starfighters) and Shields 1D+1 (7D+1 against starfighters).
6. Keep Torpedoes as they are.
7. Keep the aft gun as it is, including its starfighter scale.

It actually becomes a lot tougher against fighters, while retaining a credible position within the system mechanics. It also saves a lot of math when engaging capital ships.

The thing that ****s up balance most is the whole scale issue. The Sharisa is frelling big for a starfighter scale ship and even though freighters are big too, they don't even come close to such high meneuverability and speed ratings. Since it is easier for small ships to hit big ships, high maneuverability and speed has a much more severe impact on a fighter scale ship than it has on a capital scale ship.

When a 40m ship goes toe to toe with space superiority fighters, it is ridiculous, when it is superior in all aspects to those fighters.

It is much less strange, if the Sharisa is considered capital, because of its reactor power.

The Sharisa itself will be easier to hit and have a harder time hitting smaller opponents, but it has excellent targeting systems and can take more punishment and even though starfighters can evade it more easily, they are toast when they are actually hit. Against capital scale opponents, the Sharisa benefits from its high maneuverability.

It would be much more the in-betweener, that it seems it is supposed to be.

Excellent speed, excellent maneuverability and good hull and shield stats for its size against both small and big enemies.

I can sympathize with your point, Void, but it seems that Klick doesn't agree with you.

Remeber, it's up to the Game Master in any given game to provide balance. If you think the Sharisa is unbalancing in your game, simply don't use it.

There are many GM's who don't throw credits at their party and consequently their party could never afford a Sharisa.

Further, anything given by the GM may be taken by the GM. Nothing need be permanent.

If the Sharisa is as exotic and expensive as Klick implies, than the easiest fix would be to treat it like the Ferrari Enzo. Hideously expensive and only x number where ever made. This effectively limits the availability of the ship by making it almost one of a kind. Certainly not something the players could normally buy.

Also, if Klick is going to provide more "normal" ships from the same manufacturer, that shows he is aware of the stat imbalance and is willing to work with it. But not for the Sharisa. It's his ship.

Jake, I appreciate the support, but VOID and I discussed this on IRC last night. I'm going to playtest a modified Sharisa with VOID's suggestions to see how it goes. He does make a good point about the ship having the dodge and fire control bonuses of a starfighter along with very powerful weapons; a couple of Sharisas could lay waste to an entire cap-ship convoy in a couple of passes without their prey being able to mount any real defense.

The thing basically is, that the rules don't work well with bastard-ships. A ship is either a capship, or a fighter and most hybrids don't work well. Speaking in rule terms, that is.

If the Sharisa is a capship, then it is a damn fast and maneuverable capship with decent armament. It can hurt capships and it can dogfight with most fighters. If it is a fighter, however, it is much harder to hit by both fighters and capships, which is not offset by anything.

With my suggestions:

Sharisa against fighter. The Sharisa can shake fighters with some skill and while fighters will hit it easier than other fighters, the Sharisa can take a lot before going down. When the Sharisa is on the tail of a fighter, the fighter can dodge easier, but actual escape will be different and if it is hit, it is toast. Against capships, the Sharisa does moderatly well, which is okay for a ship of its size. Fighter dogfights will drag on a little longer, but they will be more dramatic, which is good both for games and stories. It also plays in the same league as other bastard-ships like the Skipray.
