Bluescale R-41 Starchaser WIP
Well, for the next two weeks I'm off work and will have quite a lot of time on my hands. So I thought I'd use it wisely.
I've decided, after a little encouragement from Lucas P, to draw some bluescale fighters that can be used as cargo drop-ins for ships such as the Cargo Empress
I'd thought I'd start with somthing simple such as the R-41 Starchaser, as seen in the X-Wing Space Simulator Series.
As you can see, it's a little, errrr, empty LOL, but as the ship is measured at 15 meters long, I thought an outline of the vessel that matches Frank's Bluescaling would be a priority first step, it should only take me a couple of hours to add the details and coulors, so watch this space

Re: Bluescale R-41 Starchaser WIP
Nice start! geez, you work fast!!
However, we are trying to make larger scaled ships first before we make bluescale fighters.
I think we would prefer it if you went with Redscale before bluescale, as it will be easier to reduce an image rather than enlarge it, for the starfighter gallery.
sorry about that.
kind regards,
Lucas

Re: Bluescale R-41 Starchaser WIP
Shouldn't be a problem, and thanks for the comments
My main weakness in my work was scaling, however I have developed a new technique for making scaling far more simpler, thanks to Frank's blue and red scale bars.
But if you watnt a redscale image R-41, then I'll give it a shot

Excellent, thanks Jace.
if it's not too much trouble, could you also show the source material you are using? We want to minimize 'Vigilisms' here, even though he thankfully did not draw a version of it.
kind regards,
Lucas

Re: Bluescale R-41 Starchaser WIP
Sure thing, I got quite a few handy images of this ship, I'll post them on the other thread as soon as I get the chance to upload them.
But tell me, who or what is Vigilism?

Re: Bluescale R-41 Starchaser WIP
Vigilism was an inside joke in reference to the Troy Vigil schematics in 'The Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels'. on close inspection of those drawings (all of them) the schematics are made up - the worst case of this was the Corvette on page 129....horrible.
The sketches on the other page are by Doug Chiang, a man with real talent.

Re: Bluescale R-41 Starchaser WIP
Okay,
Firstly, thank you very much for those links AG123 (in the ref forum). On consultation with Frank, it has been made clear that we need as much material on this ship before we proceed. This means screen caps (good ones) from the games it's in - XWA and Tie Fighter, I believe.
I am unsure of the 15 metre size you mentioned, Jace...this ship appears to be a single seater, and that just makes the ****pit huge in relation to the pilot. Visibility is reduced if he has to drastically lean over to look 'down'.
The design is a bit underwhelming, but it is possible to make the design work.
We will likely need to modify it though.
This should not be a one day task. We will also need to make a full plan of this ship, that's at least 5 views;
top, bottom, left, right (optional) forward, rear.
For that we need to determine proper scale after studying the images, before we draw even a single construction line.
regards,
Lucas
