YT-2000

I've been working on the outline of the Otana and it has been going very well indeed. The tough part is going to be the detailing, but I will manage it.

Comments?

Well, they say the devil is in the details... but I'm pretty sure he's in Detroit instead. emoticon

This is shaping up mondo fantastico, dude. Any ideas so far on where to put the entry ramp?

Don't quote me or kill me on this, but I always assumed for some odd reason that the entry ramp was in the neck leading out to the bridge.

It just didn't make sense in my mind to put such a long thin tube on a craft of that nature. Obviously it's not THAT thin, but still pretty worthless for cargospace or bunks.

Just my two cents...

Well the Neck is between 3.8 and 4.7 Meters wide, even with a thick Hull there would still be enough space to put some Things in there. With the YT-2000 i would install a Cargolift either in the Neck or in the bottom Part of the Hull.

For Personal Access i'd either use a small Lift or Ramp on the Bottom of the Ship (the lowest Part). If one would put the Cargo Lift in the Neck, the Landing Gear won't have to be that tall as when the Cargo Lift would be in the lowest part of the Hull.

Re: YT-2000

thank you for the comments guys. emoticon

as far as the loading ramp is concerned, I think I have no choice but to put it in the thick part of the neck (aft of the ****pit), although I really dislike that...it is the only possible place where the loading ramp might go.

The problem with that configuration is that getting into the ship and to the ****pit means leaning over the opening to squeeze past and into the ****pit while it is open. Oh well. I will work something out. I may offset the ramp a bit to make room...I will tinker with it. For now, I will concentrate on the exterior detailing first. Those hull cuts of the saucer are going to be fun. emoticon

Lucas

Any possiblity of a ramp extending/folding out sideways from the tube somewhere, would mean people turning left or right for cabins or ****pit rather than having to double back.

ONly problem with that is when you're loading/unloading cargo you really want a straight shot going into the cargo bay if at all possible. The fewer turns you have to make with a load, the better.

Now if it had a ramp built into a side similar to the one on the Falcon... that'd put it running right into the cargo bay and leave the neck alone...

Servo has a good point there, the only problem I can see there is that the ramp would likely have to be telescopic (thereby weakening it structurally) if it were in the sides. The textures oif the model do indicate that there is likely a ramp in the neck, but as I said earlier, I will definitely explore those options.

Lucas

Re: YT-2000

I went back and looked at the images from the reference sections, and one image (the underside shot) does indicate what appears to be a ramp in the largest portion of the neck. My only guess is that the copilot would remain in the ****pit during loading in the event of a rushed take-off...

Thought truthfully I'm all for a different location for the ramp.

[Edit: And someone beat me to the punch on this...feel free to ignore me...]

What about having the main cargo ramp in the same location as the Falcon's with direct access to the cargo holds and haveing a fold out stair assembly on the side of the tube similar to small buzzjets for crew/passengers and a quick entry to the ****pit.
