Private Message Harassment

Greetings,

It is sad for me to report that some people just do not understand the concept of moving on with their lives and leaving other people alone, especially when those people want nothing further to do with them.

Ultimately this is tantamount to stalking and in the real world is actionable by law. Unfortunately when it comes to public boards, this line is less clear.

I was advised by this individual that he fully intends to annoy people and gloated that there was nothing I could do about it.

What he is doing is sending PM messages to the members of the SWDA who have accounts at the runboards.com forum archive. I received a few messages from these members who have asked me to help in the matter.

Personally, I love it when someone tells me I can't do something, because it is a challenge. Well, I have met that challenge and contacted the administration at runboards.com with the offender's specific details, name, address and IP address.

My initial request was that they ban him entirely from using runboards.com, but realize that this may not be an option, so asked if there was another option that could be implemented.

It turns out there is a simple solution to the entire matter that does not need to include action from administration, either here or at runboards.com

Here's how to do it;

To deactivate email PM notification entirely;

Go to Control Panel
Select 'Change Miscellaneous Settings'
The Fourth line from the top reads 'Accept email Private Messages', simply uncheck the box.

To ignore a specific user and thus disabling their ability to contact you via the runboards internal PM system;

Go to control panel
Change Miscellaneous Settings
Scroll down to 'PM Ignore User List'
then simply type in the offending person's name.

This should resolve any issues that members are having regarding unwanted contact.

Thank you for your attention and I apologize for not posting these solutions sooner.

Best regards,
Lucas
