D20 Rules Missmatch

I know most of you dont like the D20 system, but I recently noticed something the other day as i was sitting reading the books I have.

I Have been running a game for the past 2 months, and this being my first game has had it shares of ups and downs and misreadings of the rules. But here is the problem, as reading the Core rule book on space combat it has a chart of for space ranges, Short, Medium, and Long.

The problem is that none of the guns in the books have range limits, but when you go into the spaceship book it lists max ranges, and almost all of the space rulse counter the Main rulebook.

Any ideas to help me out?

Page 214 Upper Left Corner

Point Blank (0-1 squares) +/- 0
Short (2-5) -2
Medium (6-10) -4
Long (11-20) -6

One can't fire over more than 20 Squares (wonder how the Death Star did it, damn Cheaters)

And Ships can only fire into Range Bands where they got a listing for Accuracy e.g. Range Modifiers where n/a is written one can't fire into.

Missiles move 9 Squares per turn for 6 turns, after that they do self destruct.

I will have to check when i get home from work, but i dont recall seeing anywere in the main book that a laser cannon can only fire short ranges, like it did in the starship hand book.

One that i can recal vividly though is the Ion Cannon Damage. The starship book says that each hit is a -2 to all your systems, why the main book has a chart based of damage, where a Ion cannon does 4D10x2 Ion damage, then you reference that chart.

Which is how i recall reading it, but if you take up the Starship book rulse, in the gun section it lists the weapons max range...which in the main book, all guns have a max range of 20 squares.

So which book is right?

I guess it does not really mater, because I came up with a solution to the problem, but i just wanted to bring it to peoples attention

In most cases the newer book is right.

In case of D20: Don't count on any of the books beeing right.

Well not all Ships have 20 Squares Range, if you read carefully you notice that Weapons don't fire at ranges where the Range modifier is n/a.

and thus you got a easy to use Range System.

Also remember, the Starships of the Galaxy book was written before the Revised Core Rulebook, so a number of things in there have been rendered erroneous by the new material.

Unfortunately, the planned revised-edition expanded Starship book was dropped from the production queue when they decided to put everything into Star Wars Miniatures.
