Just wondering if someone could give me some advice?
1. Is it any good? I have played neverwinter nights for years.
2. How much is subscription Fees?
3. What expansion packs do I need?
4. What is the best server?
Also does anyone know of any other SW games coming out?

Re: Thinking of Buying Star wars Galaxies
I'd wait. Bioware- makers of KoTOR and KoTOR II- are rumored to be starting work an MMO that might possibly be SWG's replacement.
I havne't played in awhile, and really don't want to again. Biggest gripe, it's set during the GCW, and there's Jedi all over the place as a starter class.
But, if ya want to try it, I think they've got a free trial you can download. Try that before buying.

Re: Thinking of Buying Star wars Galaxies
Yeah i suggest using the Trial, but i don't recommend that Game, unless you're into Interior Design, that part of the Game is well made.
But i don't like the rest of it, it was bad enough when there were dozens of Jedis around (at least for me, i hate Jedis(in SWG)). Depends what one likes with a Game, i'd say try the Demo.
Though i'm "clean" of MMOs now, just play a Ego-Shoot (Non Star Wars) when i feel like it, at least that one is made with Realism in Mind.

Re: Thinking of Buying Star wars Galaxies
I had a character on a friends account a while back, and the impression I got was that Galaxies was just another World of Warcraft style RPG with a Star Wars veneer (inappropriately) thrown over it.

No, SWG ain't like WoW. For one, WoW's cities and towns actually look and feel like cities and towns, not just a random jumble of building and NPCs.

And WoW is consistent with the Background and has a really cool Way of Leveling/Questing imho.

Re: Thinking of Buying Star wars Galaxies
Having never played WoW, I'll have to take your word for it. My specific complaint about SW:G was that it seemed like they were trying to clone WoW or any number of other fantasy-themed MMORPGs and cash in on the Star Wars name, without giving a thought to how to make SW:G feel like part of the Star Wars universe.

Re: Thinking of Buying Star wars Galaxies
It is very hard to do so. The average brainless fanfreak wants to play a Jedi, but you can't make a game with hundreds of Jedi, set in the Galactic Civil war, feel anything like Star Wars.
"When I am gone, the last of the Jedi you will be. Not mentioning the fivethousand other Jedis that are running around, but those don't count, since they are all better than you, Luke."

Re: Thinking of Buying Star wars Galaxies
Just to add my penny worth. The mental age of the game has dropped with the over simplification of the game.
In there attempt to bring in a younger market with their idea of instant gratification, kill-loot scheme they've managed to get loads of juvenile subscribers to play. Now I'm not saying kiddies as there were always youngsters playing and some of them well and very maturely, but not any more.
The increase in leet speak and pawnage and insults has put me right off the game, I still have a subscription active but whereas I used to rush home from work, log on and stay on till I needed sleep, now I just don't have the urge anymore. All the complex aspects of the game, the interdependance, the team spirit has been stripped away in favour of very poorly programmed hack and slash and blast mechanics.

Re: Thinking of Buying Star wars Galaxies
The classic disease that rides every MMORPG.
Comes all down to one problem: People.
Not kids, not newbies. It's people. Individuals are intelligent, interesting, creative, but in the herd, people are morons. MMORPG's only rub it in your face.
The game companies are doing the right thing, to ride the wave as high and as long as they can. Face it: Intelligent and critical fans are no relevant consumer group, even if it is sad.
