Star Wars Galaxies

I have never played this game, but I understand that it's scope is huge.

What I would like to see in the future would be a Grand Theft Auto style game with completely open worlds where you are able to walk around, fight and interact, get jobs, have a career path, go seemlessly from walking around on the ground, to jumping into a fighter or other ship and fly, flight sim style to other locations.
Although KNights of the Old Republic essentially did do this, and was a great game, it was still turn based, and I would much prefer to see a better mix, like they have with Galaxies...but single player.

I agree with you. In my oppinion Galaxies is'nt one of my favoutire SW games. I actually dont like it very much. Though it has become quite cool with the new update, but still.

KOTOR is a good game, and i just began a third play-through.

Welcome SVA!

It would be nice to see some other games of the quality of KOTOR with a larger scope and more open ended story.

We'll see what happens with the next generation of consoles that come out. they appear to be the next benchmark. I am going to wait for the PS3

Lucas

well, I don't play RPG's generally, so I am not too familiar by what you mean, but okay.

It's my understanding that David Braben is currently in development with Elite 4 and he has dribbled a tiny nugget of information about it, in that it will be as huge in scope as Frontier Elite, but that you will be able to leave the ship and actually explore the stations that you land in as well as land on planets, but he has also mentioned that the focus will also be to massively improve graphics. If you are at all familiar with the Elite series of games, they were not the best graphically, but they were incredible technological achievements, like a fully dynamic galaxy with literally millions of worlds possible to explore...mind you they were relatively cookie cuter, but still...too cool

Lucas

I have also heard this, and am really excited. However, I would think that is the game is as huge as Frontier Elite, with most of the Galaxy mapped and accessable, and if Braben decides to make the game as graphically impressive as most modern Space Combat Simulators and FPSs, I would imagine you would need a highend spec computer to run the game at it's full potential. But imagine the possibilities with online gameing, and of course Modding communities, it might be worth creating a few Star Wars ships to be used. If the game does come out, I'll be buying a top end PC just for that alone emoticon

amazingly, if you recall, Frontier Elite was packaged on a single 1.44 floppy disk.

The original Elite was a mere 48kb and had over 2 THOUSAND explorable planets and full vector graphics simulation...I think that Braben will optimize it in such a way that the game will run smoothly on most machines.
Case in point, look at the source engine for Half Life 2. It looks like a game that would require massive processing power, but runs very well on most machines. That is the way games should be made.

I Totally agree with you on that, Fronteer Elite was a magnificant game that ate my life up for days at a time emoticon

I hope they bring back some of the ships that were in Fronteer, the Mk3 Cobra, the Asp Exporer (My favorite because of it taking a two man crew and being kinda saucershaped emoticon) And of course the awesome Krait Assault Craft (Notes my player character was a Smuggler)

I can see Braben using the simple point and click method to control the ships systems again, with the Elite Style Scanner sitting at the bottom of the screen, you'd obviously use a Joystick to fly the ship (Just could never get my head around Freespace's mouse control emoticon) But to give each ship model some individuality, a 3D ****pit should be added.

Of course every ship can be 100% customisable, everything from weapons, sublight engines (dare I call them that) Hyperdrives, shields and other addons, oand of course the ability to add decals and graphics and change hull colour would be a bonus.

And of course, if you can actually leave your ship and explore spaceports and cities, then you can design your character, from skin colour, hair style, clothing and other apparel.

My god, somone e-mail David Braben with a link to this thread PLEASSSE!!!!!
