OOOh, I really like the added details. looks much better.
question, you have a raised bit on the rear end, which is why I assumed that perhaps that was where the pilot got in....seeing as you said that he gets in and out through the canopy, would that be cargo, or fuel storage, or something like that?

Just an armored panel door to get to the internal components with your wrench.

Cargo space? Then you'll need a travel pod.

I have an idea about the engine operation that I need to work on, which may result in new engines: vortex accelerated, gravitic fusion, plasma ion exhaust.

Geez, isn't it obvious why this ship is painted orange?

It's a prototype model -- and therefore you're gonna want it to be highly visible during performance tests! emoticon

I really like this ship, Paul. It shows the Firespray (Slave I) design heritage and if you keep the vertical flight mode it also could function as a formidable attack craft. Heck, that flat panel in the rear could even be a good spot for a bomb rack!

Did some engine work the other night, but the Warhawg (as we say in Georgia) is hogging my time to finish and post pics. I want to add some detail to the underside.

I see this as operating in variety of flight modes, even with a fixed ****pit. A holographic HUD ought to give you enough information to fly horizontal and vertical.

The vent things on the winglets are the manuevering units, cold ion thrusters operating like the linear aerospike engine designed for the ill-fated VentureStar. The black nozzles on the tail end are tail pitch thrusters. A deflector field across the exhaust acts a thrust reverser, so I dopn't have to add top nozzles.

Paul I am going to make a promise to you right here in front of everyone.

I will find a lost ship that fits the description and role of this fighter, and merge this mesh with an official ship, thus adding it to the Expanded Universe. As I process the list of lost ships, I will be moving through my lists of lost fighters, we will be reviewing a few candidates for this model when I get there.

OUTSTANDING!!!

That sounds like a tall order, but if you can do it, great!

Finished the engine. Took away some of that steel mill crucible look, at least on the inside.

And here's a cut-away.

Here I'm taking liberties with the term "Solarization" using it to define a process, particularly star- or sunlike fusion. The components and methods of operation of this thruster are not meant to infer the workings of the "solarization reactor", which may generate gravitic fusion is other ways.

This of course is to show how simple devising a propulsion unit actually is. I have a mass, I have a way to impart energy into it, and I have a way to evacuate it from the unit. Everything else is fancy words made to look technical, including my choice of font.

The process begins with the Gravitic Escalator, whose tip is actually microscopic. It provides the strong gravitational attraction in a small confined area. Reactant mass is pulled in by the gravity, spiralling through the Vortex Accelerator, which adds momentum, thus energy to the reactant mass. The mass collides at high energy fusing and producing plasma. Constrictor Field Vanes generate a force field that confines the plasma into a focased stream at the diameter of the bell nozzle. Cations, or positive ions, atomic nuclei, and subatomic particles are allowed to pass overboard. Their positive charges are used to neutralize the charge of the fightercraft. The Thermal Insulation Field is projected by an annular array of emission plates and protects components from direct reaction from the plasma. Anode coils do the easy work of attracting young and beautiful negative ions, or anions. The Anion Collimation Plate organizes them into a tighter exhaust stream. And when you need a boost because you aren't going fast enough, the Booster plates throw those ions out faster.

So we got a nice small engine, packing a powerful burst of thrust.

Liberties? We call the seat on a motorcyle a "saddle", and the linings on drum brakes "Shoes". Lets keep in mind slang in the SW galaxy is centuries old, and terms should be taken loosely, like "Turbo Lasers".
