Re: Personal hygiene systems
1. Everything that does not fit through the hatches, into the escape pods, in the bridge seats and through the doors inside a ship is completely irrelevant for the manufacturers of the ship. Those who will not use the ship anyway don't have to use the toilets.
Humans-only club? No. But humanoids-only? Yes. Most major races are roughly enough humanoid to fit the ships, the seats, the doors and the toilets.
2. Sonic showers are not exclusively sonic, but I already stated that in my first post.

Re: Personal hygiene systems
Perhaps you are right, but when the rock is labeled "consistency" and "credibility", someone has to do it. Until I am convinced that I am wrong, I will continue to push that rock.

Re: Personal hygiene systems
If I were to buy a freighter, I would want the toilets to fit my butt, not a wookiee's or some gungan or whatever.
Perhaps there can be different variants of the toilets...say 4 types to include human sized up to say wookiee sized....but not much larger.

Re: Personal hygiene systems
Yes, anything larger is useless. After all, larger species won't use the ship anyway and even if they did, they are irrelevant as consumer group. The norm are humanoids between 150cm and 220cm.
Oh and I mentioned that the proportions of the hygiene unit I made were modeled after my REAL bathroom, right? Lets put it this way: Humans almost three times my volume have used that bathroom. I can say without any doubt that it will fit 99% of all starship consumers.

Re: Personal hygiene systems
What about piss troughs and other culturally unique toilets like the Asian "hole in the floor"?
Oh, VOID, here's a jackhammer for that rock.

Re: Personal hygiene systems
I think we can go into two directions with the whole thing. One direction is to leave the space blank and just label it "ominous hygiene systems". The other is to think about how they might actually look and from all things that are imaginable, tiled showers with water taps and water-flush toilets are among the least likely solutions.

Re: Personal hygiene systems
I don't think bathrooms would be like their PLANETSIDE cousins because buildings don't fly. Aircraft toilets have their differences.
Sure we can add as many gravity fields as to make it riduculous.
Put together a sheet of optional bathroom parts and let gamers choose if they want Frank's 20 century home bathrooms, or something more aerospace minded.

Re: Personal hygiene systems
Doesn't anybody remember what a refresher booth does?
Page 30 of Galladinium's Fantastic Technology states quote: The refresher booth is a fully automated and self-contained ultrasonic shower system that invigorates while it cleans. By incorporating minute amounts of specially-formulated bacta, it promotes cellular repair and muscular stimulation. Low-frequency heat induction coils provide a warm dryingcycle that leaves the user refreshed. All it takes is 10 minutes!
