a question on the new (latest) WIP freighter, it looks as though the engineering section (as it sits now) could maneuver around( like the Bwing and many verpine craft do) while the forward section remains stationary. Is this so or is this just where you left off on it ?
which is what my first reaction to it was, but being curious had to ask... emoticon

Honestly i hadn't considered the idea...on the original top view much of what connected the engineering hull to the cargo/crew areas was obscured by cooling baffels (they looked kinda cool and were fun to draw that day as i recall). I havn't put them in on the render yet....been considering something else in their place. Or i might just shift the 2 hull segments closer together and eliminate the need for more hardware there...

Also there was a clamp (as yet unrendered) to hold a cargo pod, or a small ship. This was part of the reason that the thrusters are set up to be easily re-aligned...to compensate for a significant change in the ships center of gravity...

Ok...so I actually had the clamp built last night, so here are a few new views...

An updated top view....the engineering section has moved closer. Also you can see the positioning of the clamp. You also see an outcroping on the right side of the picture....not sure what that was originally....it's part of the original art i did 3 years ago...it may or may not survive to the final product....but it's there for now...

Here is a close up of the clamp

and here is a close up of the thruster mounting...

and for those who might be wondering about the size....approximatly 25.4m long, 7.6m tall, and 24.8m wide

Interesting... the thruster nozzles look a bit underpowered to me, but when you have several clusters of them it should be fine.

Just how big is the cargo pod this clamp is supposed to hold?

That's likely a good question..i didn't draw the cargo pod originally, and i still havn't had a chance to... Depending on it's final size the clamp will need beefed up..

Yeah, that's the reason I was asking... but I didn't want to say "your clamps are wimpy looking" if the cargo pod isn't all that big either. emoticon

That clamp was something i had done for another project a while back, and was nicer than the one in the original top view. Actually it was originally MUCH larger and designed as a space dock....I never finished the rest of the station it was to be attached to so i decided it was a time saving clamp emoticon

It's also likely that in the final version there will be a second clamp coming from the side to provide more stability

So apparently i have about a week's attention span for working on a ship. I suppose this is likely part of why I've never gotten into the deck plans aspect of it.

As has been my habbit of late i've gone back to a ship I started on about 4 years ago. It's evolved considerably from the original sketches. When it started it was just a modified YT-1300. As you can see it became much more than that. It's grown to about 85m in length.

So here it is...the Starlight Voyager...

Image

The ****pit is about the same size as the Falcon's, and the structures about half way back that look like docking hardpoints are actually crew quarters. The large chamber on top of the engineering section is the lounge area...

Image

The exterior still needs some detailing, and I'm still working on the interior layout...but there appears to be quite a bit of cargo space in there, much more than had occured to me when I drew it origionaly.

please maintain your attention span on this one! I love it and can guess others will as well (and would probably be willing to help keep you focused). emoticon
