Warning About a Virus that Uses Twitter
As reported by EverGeek Media and MSN:
Symantec Security Response just sent word that W32.Koobface.C, a new variant of last year's Koobface virus, hijacks the Twitter accounts of infected users and posts tweets to infect their followers.
Once an infected user logs on to Twitter, Koobface hijacks the session and posts a tweet to the user's account.
The tweets will include a messages with a link reading "My home video" or "Watch my new private video! LOL" or "michaeljackson' testament on youtube."
Users clicking the link are redirected to a fake video web site, which will prompt the user to download a codec to watch the video. Surprise, the "codec" is actually W32.Koobface.A.
Symantec advice:
Be careful what you click on - we advise Twitter users to avoid clicking URLs on tweets, especially if the tweet advertises a home video.
Arm yourself with strong and updated security software to catch and prevent malware from downloading.
